quad wont crank

Post by cornfedgtz »

My 90 gtz will not crank over. I have good connections to starter, battery, and block. The car runs fine, but won't crank. It doesn't even click. I drove to the gas station, and drove it home. Was gonna head in to town and nothing. I'm thinking my clutch switch may be to blame. There is no change in sound or operation with clutch pressed in or not. I can hear my relay click but that's it. If it is my clutch switch can I just run a jumper type of loop to bypass it? Daily driver, its even my parts getter but to get a new switch I need it to start without a hill. Lol

How about an issue on the ignition switch?
I have never heard of an issue with the clutch switch, but the ignition switch cylinder is not the most reliable part on our cars.

Or you just simply need a new starter.
Fun job on a Quad!

You can jump the clutch switch to try it, but I doubt that's the issue.

Turns out that I had a rotted through connection to the starter. But after 9 dollars for an intake and throttle body gasket, and a 20 cent connector? Can't complain. So far the cheapest fix on it yet. Just a real pain in the neck. I spent more time putting it back together than I did taking everything apart. And since I knew that I was probably gonna be working on it all day I decided to finally put in my canuck springs, new struts shocks and strut bearing plates. Sad thing? The oem springs were so tired that there wasn't a difference in ride height once the new springs were in.LOL

...And ride better too, I would bet.
Glad it was a cheap fix for you. With these cars, it usually is.
