Ignition gear take 2

Post by DOHC_tuner »

Okay so I bought the new piece with the intention to modify it as mentioned in the other thread. However I noticed my stock piece did not have that groove, yet matched the new piece exactly.

So I thought okay it should work. I installed it and the key does not release???

I'm confused because the old broken piece does not have the groove.

Any ideas? All I can think of is just cut a groove in it anyway?

Here is a pic of the pieces side by side.

The lock has to turn far enough to let the tumblers slide into a recess as you pull out the key.
Something is holding it from turning far enough. If not the gear itself, maybe what is attached to the rod?
I've not worked on this setup. I'm going by what I saw on a Saturn ignition lock.

I have not connected the rod to the switch. So it can not be that.

When i do not have the gear inserted the key spins freely and does release. But once I installed the gear alone it needs about half an inch more to turn to release that key.

you have an auto gear in a manual column correct? You will have to remove the key safety lock mechanism. Basically taking out the feature for the key release function.

Its attached to thr the side release lever. Youd need to take that out from in the column using the book info. I dont think its possible to mod it.
