Common oil leaks?

Post by Dwnld »

Now that I started posting, I have another question!

For some time my engine has lost some oil. Not much but I have to add it every few months or so, and sometimes I can see a clear oil drops on the parking lot if I don't drive for a few days (usually I don't). Sometimes it doesn't leak at all for a month or so.

However I prefer to fix this thing before it gets worse so what places I should check out first?

The 3.1 has two common places:
valve cover gaskets
rear main seal

A bad oil pressure sensor will leak too(mine did). Just a few drops at the front of the car.

The distributor o-ring likes to be a leaking point. Be sure to use the updated oring for replacement!

My Z26 has a 3.1L V6 engine and it has been leaking oil out the oil pressure sensor right in the front of the engine, right above the starter. My starter is always getting oil on it and I have had this in the shop multiple times and they just ended up replacing the oil pressure sensor every time. They told me that they went bad and I have had this oil pressure sensor replaced 3 times a summer season. I not sure how to fix this. Something has to be causing it to spit oil out the sensor, but I am not sure what it could be? Anyone have any ideas?

I had oil leaking out my OP unit, installed a new one, and use the faucet thread (the white tape stuff) on the threads.

The distributor oil seal plug is notorious on these engines for leaking especially before it heats up, as was suggested.
Use the replacement BROWN O-ring only!
Also the rear valve cover gasket, and the rear main seal are known for leaks.
