dealer manual wrong

Post by docrodg »

Just took out the 2.8 from my 88 gt and the manual (chiltons and dealer) were both wrong, there is another braket not listed.  Plus the bolts were hard to get out on some items due to the car has never had the engine disassembled (even the exhaust manifolds have never been off.  Only riuned 2 bolts tho!

Crank was undersize on original bearings (WAYYYY to much clearance), cam was toasted, 3 lifters self destructed when I dropped them 2 feet into a trashcan, 7 lifters were worn out and fell out of the bores, and the block deck was cracked. Car ran ok but had a little power loss, just enough to make good hills need a downshift. Yet never burned oil or lost coolant. Original engine in an 88 gt with no work done on it other than alternator replacement and 188K miles!

Crazy.  Someone beat the hell out of that engine.
