Mostly just the firewall. It was between the 2 layers of metal, and under the dash. on top of the car being reconstructed. It had holes.

Change of plans. going fwd LS1

Image

Image

kidding! I had turn it sideways to pull it out.. had to take a pic.

Image
It took me half to day to even figure out exactly where I left off..

Image
subframe support/mount. This way the subframe is now perfectly centered! I can pull it out and put it in without having to remeasure everything now and having it secure is also very nice (it get removed everytime I stop working on the car, I dont want it to rust).

Image

Image

Image

and the bad..
Image
not enough travel... I guess I measured something wrong..

Image
on top of that, I need to move the wheel up more to get the correct geometry, closing the wheel gap even more!

Image

This is with -1.5* camber, Ill be running a little more Im sure but well see what the tires want when the time comes. Ill probably start at -2* or -2.5* realistically. But regardless, It looks like Ill be pulling/flaring the fenders out. I didnt have time to toss the other side together to make sure my center line is actually center lol. But I dont see it being wrong.

Image

Image

I plan to go over my suspension geometry again to see what will happen If I just raise the car with the subframe where it sits. If Its still good, Ill just do that. If its not, Ill be cutting my support out and lowering it half an inch to make it right! but thats my update.

hey at least I got the subframe "holder" figured out lol. its 1"x3" and 1" box so ill just cut a 1/2" notch out on the sides, grind it all smooth and weld it back in. worst case. too bad I ran a bead along the whole thing of 1x3.....

hahaha!! yeah, I will never build another FWD car to race. (as im trying to talk myself out of megasquirt for the daily)

I got a LITTLE more done. Not too much but its something.

Image
Motivation. I REALLY need to get this thing done..

Image

Image

Got this thing welded back in place to set the subframe on

Image

Tossed the subframe on and all the suspension/brakes/wheels. I thought it looked a little funny, because I lowered the subframe, my point of measurement changed so its half an inch too far forward. Not a huge deal this time, Its only tacked in place. My aftermarket subframe isnt 100% level so I think Im going to lower it another 1/4" so I can get it level with shimms without raising it up too far. Ended up ordering a laser lever, should be here by next weekend, that will make life soo much easier when it comes time to put the rear end in. And help verify everything is centered. I feel like Im posting the same pic every time lol. I cant get enough tho, you know your building the right car when you can just sit and stare at it in amazement. This never gets old for me, I love working on this build even with having to redo a few things.

Image

Ok now its official official. No flares required. I will be pulling the fenders out a tad and calling it good. Thats -2.5* camber. 2 different tires, thats why It looks like one side is different. Pretty happy about that!!

Have you been working on engine mounts and drivetrain angle with your suspension mockup?

Will the engine clear the hood?

Well its in the back of my mind but thats it right now. Engine will for sure clear the hood. Ill probably do some sort of "engine mounts" to at least bolt the engine in. Engine will be mounted to the frame once that gets done after all the mockup. Suspension has to go where it has to go, once the rear end is mocked up and "mounted" ill figure out how exactly the engine has to sit to get the right driveshaft angle. Thats the plan anyways

Cool - Have you figured out what oil pan/pickup tube your going to use?

The Corvettes have the sump in the back and the steering rack up front.

The G8/SS/Camaro have the sump up front -and the steering racks in the back.

If the intake hits the hood - you might as well go full retard - LOL:

Yeah im going with the fbody pan, I really wanted the c5 pan but it wont clear. The front of the fbody pan is going to sit right over the steering rack, thats why the hole is so big in my firewall (or what's left).

Haha, that looks like an LSA?

I forgot if I mentioned this, Ill be going with MMS 223 sportsman heads and probably a fast 102 intake with tony mamo porting now. IF i have room, maybe the holley high rise, but I highly doubt it.

LS1 with Cathedral port heads - LS1 to LSA Adapters - LSA blower. That setup is going in a pretty nice G-Body.

Your car going to be more straight line performance - or an autox and road course setup?

where do you get the adapters??? the LSA blowers are dirt cheap.. I know they are not the best, but still!

Im going for a "street car", setup for autox/road racing. It will be drag raced and built simply to hold up to the abuse.
