3100 AC idler pulley?
3100 AC idler pulley?
For the 2.8/3.1 MPFI's I know for sure you don't NEED that idler pulley. Just a shorter belt will do. Sure you can move the water pump by hand with some effort, but it spins it fine with no problems.

I looked at it again this weekenda and I'm pretty sure you can't just bolt that pulley to the block like the 2.8/3.1. I'll try putting on my bracket sometime soon and post some picks when it happens.

Just for clarification the idler pulley mounts to the timing chain cover.
Keep us posted on what you decide. Supposedly there is about 40 lbs. in the AC system.

The actual bolt goes through the cover and into the block, right? That cover is very thin cast Al. It's been a couple years since I've torn down that side of the engine, could be wrong.

I am pretty sure it is just the cover. It is just an idler so there is not much stress on it.

Are you serious? If I had to guess, I would say that there is about a million pounds of force on it, god! /napoleon dynamite
