Interest in poly torque strut for ~ $40 shipped?

Post by IsaacHayes »

Update, I have the parts, and have figured out what needs to be done to fill them so that the bolt sleeves are straight and true. Tomorrow I will run to town to get some more supplies and then set them up to fill. I have already cleaned and degreased all parts all is left is to seal them for filling and align all the sleeves, then pour the poly in. So tomorrow they will be "done" after it cures enough. 2 days is 80-90% and 7days 100% strength it says IIRC.

I was hoping to have them filled today but took my time cleaning them so it bonds well and had to figure out what the best way would be to set them up to be filled. I finally figured out I need a jig to hold the bolt sleeves straight and not let them tilt which would mean the bolt binding up when installed. And also to hold them at the right height sticking out.

I also figured out what I need to seal the bottom up and make sure no leaks are there so when I fill them it doesn't all leak out!

So anyways took a bit of time but you only get one shot at it once you mix the stuff together!

You DID read my post on only having 13 days 'til the first Points Race, right?

Well now it's 12!

No Pressure.

Although the more I read about this, I'm starting to think you might have been better off going with the press-in bushings.

But we'll see how it works. At least you did SOMETHING!

Well, the 2 part stuff is not adding to the cost of the mounts. I got that for $15 from wanako and that's what I'm using to keep cost down. The ES ones will reflect the extra cost of those bushings. And remember if the poly wears out the filled mounts can accept replacement ES bushings too since they all use the same dogbone design.

Yes it's a lot of setup time but it should work fine. People use the 2-part to fill stock rubber mounts, and also to fill the mounts after they have burned the rubber out with the pure poly so there should be no worries.

I just have to make sure I get it setup perfect before I pour it in.

And I remember you said just get it done. That's what I'm doing!

Poly is curing, only had enough for 7. Lucky 7! I had enough for 7.5 actually, but I used the .5 to top off a few as they sprung leaks after about 40mins, I guess the poly dissolved the tape glue. Tomorrow they should be cured hard enough to handle and I can clean up the leaky excess.

I will wait until it's firm enough to be installed and then start test fitting them in my car. Just to make sure each one is with in specs. I won't drive with them cause it takes 7 days for full strength but I want to make sure they fit proper before sending them off.

Now I know how many ES bushings to order so those will be to me shortly for the rest of the mounts.

..

Phew what a lot of work to get the bolt sleeves centered in the bushing hole, centered sticking out equally of both sides of the mount, and keeping them perpendicular to the mount!! And I taped up and sealed all those extra mounts too when only 7 were needed! OH well didn't know that until I poured. It would of been way less work for me to just put ES bushings in them all, but you guys that get the 7 of these mounts get them cheaper! I think I'm a bit dizzy from that poly even though it had no smell I could detect, and my finger hurts like hell (cut it deep with a razor blade). I have pics but it's late so tomorrow when I get a break I will post em up.

So we are getting closer!! I'm rushing things as fast as I can but making sure to be careful!

Night!

Here is pics guys. Sorry it's late I had to help take a rear end out of a C3 vette and the trailing arm bolt was seized to the bolt sleeve so it fought us.

Notice how it's a sort of semi-clear black. Kind of cool. Today they are still soft, but solidified. Not at full hardness yet.

Asylum, I'm sending you a PM in a sec. I will check yours out and ship it out tomorrow. Let me know how you want it shipped, it's heavy!

Spent a lot of hours testing them all. The bolt sleeves were a hair to long so I ground those so it slide in fine. Then I had to address the rear not sliding in and the bolt hole coming up perfectly. I originally was going to make the rear smaller than I had made, but instead I went off of the FFP dimensions for the height and even made it a bit smaller, figuring it was proven design. So I ground a bit to get them to fit:

Not as pretty as before, when installed you won't see that section anyways, or the mount really with the splash guards on hehe. I made these to be tough and re-buildable with EnergySuspension bushings, not to be pretty.

I put one in my car tonight and drove around with it and will take it out tomorrow (it was late and was pouring rain) and inspect it to make sure it's not rubbing anywhere or anything and then I'll accept orders for the poly filled ones. The ES bushing ones I will accept orders once I get the parts for those in and assembled and ready to go.

Ok, I have 5 right now poly filled dogbones ready to go. They have cured for 2 days so 80-90% hardness. 100% hardness will be on Monday FYI.  The ES ones will be ready later once those get to me (still waiting for tracking #, fed-ex....)

Not sure how fast these will go, so if you want them cheap act now.

$45 shipped in the US. Let me know if you want them in a Priority Mail box, or just in a flate rate envelope. The envelope will save me $6 but isn't as good of protection.

The ES version is $57.25 so after these 5 go, that will be the only option left. Still a good price.

PAYMENT DETAILS:

Post HERE if you are sending PP so others know how many are left. Also this thread is on Bstuff as well as beretta.net so check both places.

PayPal address is: isaachayes (at) mchsi.com for Credit Card funded payments.
PayPal address is: isaachayes (at) gmail.com for bank transfer, or paypal balance funded payments (saves me the fees).

If you don't know which one to use then use the first one (mchsi.com)

Be sure to include your correct shipping address, your message board nickname, and if you want it in an envelope or in a box.

Thanks!
