check out domesticcrew.com and 3400swap.com
A 3500 will not work currently due to the crank shaft position sensor tone ring is different. But you can put a 3500 plenum on a 3400, or 3500 heads/top end up on a 3400 block though.

Would the tone ring be a problem if you took the tranny along with the engine? Of course, that would present it's own problems, but a six speed trans from a G6 would be nice.

The tone ring is what the computer uses to know where the crank is so it can fire spark. The transmision has nothing to do with it.

the 3.1 mpfi intakes suck big time. That's why your power drops off on the higher RPMs. and porting them they will never even get to flow as well as stock 3400 stuff. It's a better design.

$200 per injector? Did they include Astroglide before they bent you over     .

But really..that's a mighty high price for stock injectors.

No one's really going to look under your hood other than the inspection station if they even look.

THe 3500 uper intake is actually more stock looking than the big bold 3400 intake. Either way...the 3100-3400 are smog legal swaps.

You would re-use your injectors anyways with the 3400 since your computer is programed for the flow rate of them and will run best with those. And that's an insane price for injectors.....

um the injectors are for a 1989 corvette h.o. thats why thet were so much, as the car sits its otherwise bone stock, but i have raced like 5 berettas with the same motor and won by at least 1 car link, so the "bigger" injectors help out a little, and hey more horse power is never cheap. lol . but hey you guys are really helping me get a good idea of what motor to buy and what i can do to that motor to squeese even more power from it, becouse the 3400 has like 30 more h.p. than the 3.1, and maybee with a 3500 topend it would be a little more, but i have a qusetion here, when the motor is done i am wondering if i should just replace the 5 speed trans with a 6 speed? would that make the berette go faster than 115 mph?  or should i just have the 5 speed rebuilt? i'm only asking becouse i want a new car and i cant afford that but i can afford to rebuild the beretta, then it will last at least another 16 years. lol

heh, a 6speed? like from a pontiac G6? that would be a lot of work but interesting if you got it working.

In all reality though just stick with the 5spd. The gearing on it won't limit you to 115mph. The computers speed cut off /governer will, or you will run out of horsepower to pull up faster. 142mph in 5th gear is about 5300 rpms. So the trans isn't holding you at 115mph.

so not to sound like an *** but how do you know 142 is 5300, did you remove the governer??? if so how did you do that??? and the 6 speed is suppose to be an after market trans, but i do not know 4 sure. and what would you recomend for a clutch??? i'm thinkin centerforce but not sure they are kinda high with there prices. I can't remove my speed limiter, because I do not have a removeable chip, and my computer is still odbi, but flash, and no one makes anything for mine, as it's a grey year. My ECM shuts off fuel at 107mph.

For you I suggest checking out www.60degreev6.com. They sell chips for your car for a good price that actually does something. And you can have your speed limiter removed. Also check out www.v6z24.com and search around, some guys on there have really powerfull turbo motors/etc and have strong clutches. I don't like centerforce myself.

There is no "aftermarket" transmisions..!! hhehe. At least not for fwd domestics!

And check out the Corberetta thread, Norm had a modded 3.1 (bored to 3.2) with chip/headers/etc and that's where I got the figures from. He saw 5300rpm in 5th, and Rex calculated it to be around 142mph. I don't know the gear ratios off hand, so I can't calculate what redline would be in 5th... But 142mph is enough!!
