Beretta Turbo Updates

Post by IsaacHayes »

Were those tires/wheels (5spoke slicks) in the shot on the grass smaller diameter than normal? Holy moly that's a lot of wheel gap!!! Those look like Pontiac wheels, like the 5x115 style ones.

SCX wheels and yes, they are only 20.5" tall.  1" smaller than my drag radials but much lighter because of the wheels (about 10 lbs less each) but I did hit my speed limiter on every pass.

I took the car out 7/12/09, washed it and snapped a few pictures the next day for you guys. I have put over 300 miles on it so far and the next stop is Nitrofest.

Is that a custom hood? It looks like the one they had pictured in the GTU ads.

Holy crap those slicks are short. They give you quite a bit more gear that way, too.

Hood looks awesome, I really like it. Details? I've got a welder! haha

I was hoping no one would notice the hood. Thats why I never said anything about it. It's supposed to look stock. I have been trying to make this thing look stock but run strong and handle well since the beginning. I have tryed a few things to get the heat out and this was the next step. The car has never overheated or even gone over 5/8's on the gauge but I just hate heat and what it does to seals and wiring. My GPGT even has higher underhood temps than I like. It wasn't based off any other hood and I had no idea how it would turn out when I started. It's a 1" cowl with extruded metal in many places underneath to strengthen it. It took me 2.5 weeks of no TV or internet to get it done. I bought a pretty straight (4 hail dents and 1 larger but very shallow dent) rust free hood and After spending the amount of time with sanding blocks that I did I have to say the factory hoods are much less straight than we think. There are spots where 1/8" of filler was necessary but by far the most time was spent getting the groves in the hood straight and I'm sure the welding heat didn't help there but I stagered the welds just like I usually do I sheetmetal. I bought the hood in January and I did the work in March.

A few things changed over the winter...but you will have to wait until they are proven before I'll let you know. Brad also STOLE my slicks  so some slightly larger ones may have to work unless he gives them back :sparta

Finally, I was able to hear my car run and drive it on Labor Day since I had the day off. It's been way to busy of a year. I pulled it out with 58XXX miles on it, finished tuning it for 6 psi, 24 Lb/hr FMS injectors, and 97 octane E50, and drove it home with dust all over it and the interior not being cleaned in like 3 years. I washed it and drove it to NitroFest the next week. I ran a new best with larger slicks that I didn't spin on the second pass but did on the first against the owner of the company I work at in his GT500. The first pass was my best. I'll update more later tonight.

I ran a 13.95 @ 98.39 that pass. I then backed it up with two more 13.9's.

I have a video Devon took that has a guy and a kid next to him that laugh, say "what, he thinks he's gonna beat a $70k car", then say "oh s***!" as I'm ahead at the 330' and "He ran 13's!" very excitedly as my time comes up. The GT500 ran 13.48 @ 107. That made my day. I then cleaned the interior throughly at Devon's after.

I drove it back Sunday after the autoX and made it back safe and sound with everything still working even though some idiot drivers decided to not slow down behind me even though everyone infront of them was on their brakes with me pumping the brakes to make it look like a hazard signal. I ended up flooring it at 30 mph or so and spinning my front tires as I was trying to avoid the impending crash. I thankfully did and my trany seems to be fine as well.

I lost a bit of mileage though the intake manifold being cooler, having to pay 70 cents a gallon less, and supporting both my dad and myself is plenty worth the ~5 mpg.

Wow, Dusty. That's a great time. And especially to back it up same day! Congrats. Maybe I would have had better luck driving to WI rather than PA...hahahah

Thanks eric. Yeah, I made 3 passes and they were all within 3 hundreths of each other. I spun slightly that first run but with the increasing DA I just couldn't beat that pass even though I got rid of the spinning. DA was right around 700' on that first pass.
