Beretta Turbo Updates

Post by wicked-irocz »

I got my turbo back    but I hate international shipping; so slow and the boxes ALWAYS end up looking like they sat in a warehouse getting kicked around for a year.  The guage pod is done, just need to install it now, turbos going in for good tonight (crosses fingers).

Beretta Turbo Updates

mmm its odd your running lean? i ran pretty rich with my multec IIS until about 4500 in 3rd and 4th. just at 5psi is when i started to get lean. with my 255lph i could get closer to 8psi before it ran lean......then again that was with no tunning. right now its ok, but still way too rich. i have some oil puffing from the exhaust.

at idle im around 20" of vaccum?? mmm but yeah im around 10" of vaccum while cruising with light throttle.

sounds like your getting alot done.. ist nice to get updates

Beretta Turbo Updates

I was actually wondering what you'd been up to.

berettaspeed: reason why you ran rich is because the multec2's are 19lb vs your stock 16lb which the stock computer was tuned for. So of course it will run rich at idle/low throttle as the ECM thinks it's still 16lbs. It will even out at 4500 because if you had the stock 16lbs in there that's where a 3400 goes lean. Follow me?

**multec2's I'm not sure if they are 19lb, maybe more?

If you get a chip from burn at v6z24.com you can run your multec2's correctly as it's tuned for the higher flow so it tames them down at idle/etc and yet you still have power for 4500 so it doesn't go lean. That should make tuning for your boost easier!! One less varible! Much easier to add boost to a properly tuned car than one that's not tuned right in the first place!

Wicked isn't having this issue because his car came with a 3100 and is tuned for the higher flowing heads and intake already. So N/A his is running fine, where you'rs isn't because you have a higher flowing motor than stock, and larger injectors than the computer is tuned for.

^^ ooh i know that thats why i used them to hope it would handle some boost, but it didn't hold as much as i wanted. with the stock TGP code the multecIIs did worse than with the 2.8 code and a 1bar map. with the 1 bar  on the 2.8 code it did the best. when i put in the 2bar it went way lean.

right now i have 36# GTP injecter with tunerpro..  alot better now. but still rich to keep it safe. still power loss at 5500rpm or so

Beretta Turbo Updates

Turbos in.  Gauge pod filled with gauges and in.  Gauge wiring ran.  Cleaned up the looks a little bit with wire loom, different color zip ties, and edge trim.  I added another breather on the front valve cover with a check valve so my PCV system still works under vaccum.  I added the extra breather since the rear breather is at the end of a 3/8" ID line and that for sure cannot be big enough.  I also ordered a boost pressure relief valve (ball, spring, bolt with hole in it) for my SFMU from vortech as mine didnt come with one.  Quite a ripoff to say the least, $41.  Once the valve is here I will use it to adjust my max fuel pressure down since I was hitting 10.5:1 A/F ratio at the same pressure ratio when I was running 3.5 psi of boost.  Without the valve I will undoubtedly be in the 9.X:1 A/F ratio which is way rich.

In other news I fixed the IROC-Z's low rpm, high load misfire.  Turned out a metal lined vaccum hose (Ive never seen one before either) shifted to the top of the distributer cap and was causing 2 cylinders to short to the hose.

Are we about to see some times berettaspeed? now that you have tuning more figured out.

Beretta Turbo Updates

UPDATE

I know its been a long time but Ive been busy working and was without internet for over 6 weeks.  I bought a ALDL to USB cable from moates.net and wrote a .adf file for TunerPro RT which Im still working on (rpm, injector pulse width, and gear selection left) but is functional.  I took my beretta to my freinds 5 weeks ago for the keying to get fixed and the PRNDL switch got stuck for the second time (first was three years ago) and wouldnt shift into overdrive or start after I shut it off.  I had to unbolt the downpipe from the turbo again in order to change it and it took 4 hours (if you include taking the downpipe off and putting it back on).  I just bought a brand new innovative wideband O2 sensor kit (I had been borrowing one from college when I was dynoing it) for $100 and will be putting it on to finish tuning it next weekend hopefully.  Im going to pick up the car tommarro and I will post progression pictures next week.  I will be away from the internet till monday for sure.

It was a deal I got that was a one time deal but you can purchase the same thing for $350 through many parts stores.  The part # is LM-1

I thought that was a helluva deal.    $350 is about the average i've found.

HUGE UPDATE

I adjusted my vaccum areas for fuel pressure and cleaned up my emissions a bit.

I'm sorry the car wasnt washed for these pictures. ÂÂÂ

Heres a couple of pics of the progress of it geting painted.  I had my freind paint the door to get rid of the keying and blend into the front fender taking out a few rock chips.  I also had him paint the mirror and the grill.  The grill is from another member here and although it was red the clear was all pealed off so I spent 3 hours sanding every nook in that little bugger.  Only the best paint: PPG.

My interior, no, it hasnt been cleaned in about 14 months.  You can see my gauges: fuel pressure (2 1/16"), vac/boost (2 5/8"), wideband(next to laptop), my laptop(use for datalogging), and the gauge pod I made out of carbon fiber which took about 3 weeks of spare time.

Just some outside pics, the final look for the engine compartment, and the battery.

Beretta Turbo Updates

The transmission hasnt missed a beat.

Ive been driving it everyday this week.  I havent gone into boost lately since I'm 65 miles from my shop and a majority of my tools.  Next time Im home I will be spending some time datalogging under boost as I had started to before my PRNDL switch went out.  Before that I went under full boost in second gear starting at about 2500 RPM until 3500 RPM and it pulled nearly the same there as it used to in first gear at the same RPM.

Thanks Rex, it means a lot when it comes from someone whos done his own.

Takes a lot more time and effort than people realize to make stuff from scratch.  I didn't have any fancy tools.  Just grinders, welder, and drills, etc.  You could tell in most of the work, but I hadn't even really welded before.  It wasn't pretty, but damn it would run.  All I did was read books and apply basic knowledge.  A wide band was always on my list, but never in the budget.  (as many other things)

Good luck, I know you are having fun!
