3100 Manifold

Post by GTU89 »

I read on here that the 3100 Exhaust manifold can be used as a upgrade for the 2.8? Exhaust as well?

Asking because there is a junkyard near me that has two 3100 Beretta's, one of which the manifold should be somewhat easy to get as the engine is torn down on it, and the other still has wheels and tires so for the exhaust all I'd have to do is jack it up.

Not sure where, but I could've sworn I saw somewhere that people use 3100 intakes as well, is that true too?

If you want to use 3100 parts on a 2.8 you can, but you will need custom length push rods to keep factory preload on the lifters. If you were going to go that route many would suggest a 2.8L engine and 3400 top end, because the larger intakes will be a better swap than the small port 3100 stuff. You would end up with a creative combination that will have quite a bit of torque with a good cam.

And yes if your using 3100/3400 parts the 3400 manifolds are better due to the tubular rear manifold, but the front isn't much of a change from the 2.8 up to the 3400... they are just logs. I wouldn't put 3100 manifolds on a 2.8 head either though since the ports are round on a 2.8 vs D shaped on the 3x00. I would only use the 3x00 manifolds if your using 3x00 heads.

*Edit
Seperated Intake info from Exhaust info so people can see I answered both questions, and clarified my opinion on the use of the manifold.

Great info there, but he is talking about exhaust. The 3100's have D ports so you will have to grind it down. I don't think the exhaust pipe will line up.
If you have an ABS gas tank stay away from the 3100 exhaust piping. I think the ABS tank was only on the 90-91's. The 90 for sure.

Do people ever completely read prior posts anymore before posting? Just wondering...

Was that aimed at me? If this was posted before I apologize, but the search doesn't work right for me, I'm guessing its the internet browser I'm using.

Mine's a 89

No, it was not. And the search works fine and works the same for every one of the 5 browsers I've used it on.

It doesn't work well for me. It's a hard fight just to look up an old topic or post.

Oops I didn't see the intake part of that post. Old eyes don't see very well. Sorry 3X00.
