My car is a 95 Z26 and it did not have DRL's, I acquired DRL's when I changed my wiring to obd2. I'm surprised nobody brought up the leaving the headlight switch halfway between parking lights and headlights to disable the DRL's lol.

And put extra wear and tear on your headlight switch? No thanks.

My car didn't have them originally... it was built in April 1994. I believe this has been discussed earlier and it was found that May 95 cars is when the DRL's started showing up.

Of course, I have DRL's now with the OBDII swap, along with the twilight sentinel feature; I don't use my headlight switch anymore.

haha i used this a few times to mess with a girl i went out with. kinda funny at the time.

my 95 had all this stuff. auto lights, drl's and a butt load of problems. never had to use the headlight switch same thing with the GA. although with the GA they added the option a few years down the road where you could do the headlight thing manually or put the switch in the auto position and let the car do the work for you.

Like you said, it's because you're in Canada. All Canadian-specific cars were equipped with DRL's.

Since I'm swapping to OBD2.. If possible I would like to switch the DRL's to sort of what the 2000 style F-bodys and C5 Corvettes had..

Have the turn signals in the bumper be the DRLs. On the bright part of the bulb like when the turn signal is on. That would be a badass look without having to turn the parking lights on.

Anyways, after disabling the DRL's, do the automatic headlights at night still turn on?

disabled drl's means no auto headlights to my knowledge... or at least the way I did it they don't work, but a flip of one switch and they do.

I had found a long time ago someone who made a module that did exactly that... I just cant find it now for the life of me.

The only issue with the twilight sentinel is when it gets all mucked up with dust and dirt and you end up with 100% headlights all the time.
My '92 Canadian spec car became a PITA that way.
Had to keep cleaning the damn thing out.

Time to dig up an old thread..

I did find this universal DRL kit..

http://www.webelectricproducts.com/products.htm

I am curious if this will work the way I want it to. I might give them a call/email to ask a couple questions before ordering

Unfortunately I don't have anything for 1996 aside from power train service info. You should be able to disable the DRL by cutting out the DRL resistor or one side of a relay. This is probably contained in the DRL module itself.
