Exterior Door Window Trim moulding
What are we doing now to repair our exterior window-wiper rubber trim piece on the door between mirror and door handle pillar?
You know, the part that GM quit making a long time ago?
Is there rubber we can buy to put into this part to freshen it up?
Andy <--maybe hed know if he attended a bfest once in a while. Regrets missing michigan!

Re: Exterior Door Window Trim moulding
Anyone modify or fix these?
Maybe buy rubber strips [I'll check jcwhitney] and tack it on both window side and the door skin side?

Re: Exterior Door Window Trim moulding
It would cost us around 3-5k to have someone design a extrusion mold and we would have to buy them in quantity with a min order value of 1k IIRC... I have a thread on it, but we would need someone to design the profile for us as well as pick the material to be use and so on, the place I found will only make them if we have ALL of that laid out.
I am working on modifying my own with an aftermarket dew wipe I got online to see if it works. I've just been too busy working on other projects...

On a somewhat related issue, I have a spare one here with no cracks or tears but it is pretty hard.
How would I soften it up?

I don't think you can... It's just like a dash, once it's dried up it's done... it's the material they use and it's just sun baked.

Yup, and I think even all the good ones now will be junk shortly. I put a good pair on my car in '09 and it's already cracked. And god knows that car has seen more time in the garage than it ever should have in that span of time...

I hear ya. Mine are just fine right now but who knows? And this car is always indoors.
I also need to find something to keep the boots on the euro mirrors soft.
But we are a bit off topic now. My Bad!

Brake fluid is pretty good for softening up rubber, from what I was told and have seen.
I have only done it to soften up newer seals on newer vehicles, so it might not be that effective on old brittle stuff.

Soff seal makes a supposed universal one that's cut to fit. Looks kind of close. If anyone has the original parts number or a superceded number try looking it up on www.partsvoice.com. I use d this site to find tons of oem trim and parts no one else has.

Re: Exterior Door Window Trim moulding
I highly doubt anyone would EVER find OEM external dew strips available online somewhere still, and if anyone did I'm putting out the offer that I would pay you 1k for them. That's simply because I do not believe any online sales store would have these in stock or hidden on a shelf somewhere... Hell GM vintage parts doesn't even have any. I know some have gotten lucky and find the occasional person on Ebay that has one or two stashed away but even that has become a long lost dream.BerettaMN wrote:If anyone has the original parts number or a superceded number try looking it up on http://www.partsvoice.com. I ordered some generic felt dew belt strip online from a company that was pretty close to the top rubber profile, it doesn't have the lower inner curve that the OEM ones have but if we could just get something to replace the top exposed rubber I think that is all we need. I'm working on retrofitting them to the OEM metal part.

Re: Exterior Door Window Trim moulding
It would be worth a shot. I found some bumper chrome and a few trim pieces which no one had and searched eBay for years. This site searches dealers and collector dealers that buy remaining stock of obsolete parts.

Brake fluid is possible but risky or you can try spray silicon lubricant. Its worth a shot to try and soften them. I use spray silicon lubricant on all weather stripping to keep it soft.
