Rodney Dickman shift cables

Post by Asylum »

I sent an e-mail to Rodney Dickman regarding them reproducing shift cables for our cars.

The response was somewhat disappointing!!

"Hey Eric, thanks for your inquiry.

I have looked into this and if there was sufficient interest we could have them made.

We have shift cables for Fieros that are OEM spec with even better insulation and high quality hardware, and would be willing to work on FWD applications if we could establish a need, and obtain workable samples to engineer."

SOMEBODY get on this folks!!

HUH??

Typical... Say one thing to one person when they are trying to get it done, then when someone inquires about it after it didn't happen he gives them a completely different story to exclude them as the reason why it's not going through.

He is of the opinion there just isn't a sufficient demand I suppose.
The Fiero cables sell for about $140 if I remember correctly.
How many damn Fieros are still around?

There are a lot more Fiero people willing to spend money than Beretta people I know that for a fact.

I have a spare set of cables and live an hour from Rodney. If he's serious I could drop them off.

I'd say give him a call and find out or shoot him an email because we have conflicting info that he's given out to two different people.

I'm going to ask him if we were to supply a set would he quote on reproducing them.

EDIT: Inquiry sent.

That's because he doesn't want to do them. We have 7 different styles of shift cables or something insane like that.

I think in the end there are just 2 styles of shift cables (in L-body), they may altered the length and insulation between the years. but they do interchange in pairs with acceptable tolerance.

Basically it's the small ended ones, and the newer ones that come with bushings. All you need to do when changing from style to another, is to change the shifter arms from the trans (one bolt) and shifter arm (almost as easy)

I've used 2.2 Shift cables with 3.1, and currently using Quad shift cables.

So he could basically just make one cable that would most likely fit all.
