I was wondering what I could use to take away all the clear coat on my Z26 wheels without doing any damage to the wheels them selves?

I don't know of anything to take clear coat off wheels, but I'm wondering why you would want to do that.

you could use a chemical stripper, remember to take the rim off the car and remove the center cap, keep it off the tire as much as possible.

Sorry I just found out the link doesn't work like it should. Do a google search "take clear coat off" and it be titled "How to Take The Clear Coat Off of Your Rims and Polish Them ...". That link works and shows to the process the guy went through on his rims.

It makes the job easier to de~clear it with a chemical then go through the old process and all that other rigamarole.

No kidding Steph!
You can use Aircraft Stripper on your wheels to get the clear/paint off it. It comes in a brush on application or in an aerosol can. I think the name is technically Aircraft Remover....

Yup, that stuff works wonders. Just don't breathe it in when you are using it. About 10secs later the paint just curls up and falls off. Keep in mind if you use this the painted center parts of your Z26 wheels will also be stripped.
You could then polish the wheels clean, or polish out the machining lines (I like them, gives it that shiny CD affect). Then mask and re-paint the centers, then re-clear. I would suggest some tough paint and not the duplicolor stuff. The duplicolor stuff you can actually remove at anytime with acetone, so it's not that durable.

You don't want to use the Aircraft stuff on the plastic centercaps... they will eat that plastic alive.

There are a couple places around Pittsburgh that can blast them if you wanted to pay a little for it.
