If Only I Had Money...

Post by Koots »

I would order one of these for my Corsica:

The post is from a guy building V12 LSX-based engines, but a few posts down he shows off the basis of his V4 version as well (made from the scraps of the V12).

It would displace anywhere from 2.4L to 3.5L, could easily make as much power as a 3400/3500/3800 and weigh much less (especially if you opt for an aluminum block).

I can only imagine the custom fun one could have with such an engine.

UIt would be the ultimate engine swap for a 60s Saab. (one of the few cars with a factory equipped V4)

I want one of each... v4 for the Corsica and v12 for the Trailblazer.

Never gonna happen though. Too poor.

I've owned three V-4 engines, all in Honda motorcycles. Despite their bad reputation (I NEVER had the oiling problems people rumor-mill about them, and one of those bikes I've personally put thousands and thousands of miles on, from one end of this country to the other and back again, and it was still a kicking, screaming performance engine that could be dressed up in a tux and asked to serve champagne to grandparents if you kept it below 3800 RPM, or used to tear Genghis Khan's armies to shreds with if set loose anywhere near its' 10,500 RPM redline in a corner), they are extremely torquey beasts, also 90-degree blocks. Extremely smooth, well balanced, and beautifully compact. V-4s have a definite purpose, IMO. I say this guy has a great idea, the amount of work required to re-mate the two halves together makes me cringe though. The V-12? Awesome, I would make a home on one of my Camaros to help him Beta-test one of them, if I got to keep it.

Thanks for sharing, Koots.

I've done so much daydreaming of a 3.0L, cuz even with stock engine components, an aluminum LS2 makes 400HP and weighs around 440-470 fully dressed. SO cut that in half and you've got 180-200HP and a 220-300lb engine. Throw in a custom cam, head porting, new valvetrain, custom headers and ported intake and you've got a 230-250HP engine at a minimum (depending on cam specs).

A 3X00 would be more cost effective overall, obviously, but if I won the lottery it wouldn't even be a consideration.

It is funny how people like you and me say things like 'If I won the lottery, I would do this or that crazy mod to my Beretta/Corsica/whatever.' instead of 'If I won the lottery, I would ditch this POS old car and buy a Ferrari/Bugatti/whatever.' Yup, we are the sane ones, for sure!

If I hit the lottery, the ONLY sports/high end car I would buy is an Atomic Orange C6 Corvette ZR1.. maybe two.. one to drive and one to keep perfect.

Otherwise, I would get a Beretta done exactly how the Feretta looks. LS power AWD 6 speed manual.. the works haha.
