HIDs do not need projectors. They need enclosures that are properly designed for their light output, projector or reflective.. There are TONS of vehicles on the road with factory HIDs that do not have projectors.keiffith wrote:HID's need a clear outer lense and a proper projector to function properly.
Case in point of not needing projectors. My brother has these in his silverado..

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
Bought a 4-hi harness from ebay to save time. Also sanded & polished the headlights to bring them back to clear and then tinted them. Modded the low beam housing and connector for 9005 high beams so they are plug & play and I can swap bulbs when they blow without modding them. Only need to use a 9006 o-ring. I like the look. Seems like it should be plenty of light output. I'll know better tomorrow when I get some night road miles.

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
Bought some stainless long tubes. OBX from ebay for about $260. Looks like a good buy, but god damn they are ugly. haha.
Got some pics of the headlights all done too. Night visibility is actually better than it was before the changes. I think clearing the cloudiness and the 9005 low & 4-hi mod made a big difference.

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
Oh don't worry about the shiny headers... they are OBX I bet they will discolor or surface rust up nice and quick. IIRC OBX doesn't not use 300 grade stainless, but things could have changed.
Magnet stick to them?
And all this work and you can't go buy a cheap $42 fender!

Like I've said 100 times before...NOPE! haha There isn't a single straight panel on the truck, why would I worry about one?

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
Put a new stereo in the Beretta so the truck got the old head unit. Stock radio never worked since I bought it...and I didnt have any tapes to try the cassette deck. haha And the 3-tone maroon was annoying me so I sprayed some of it black. Makes me want to do the whole interior black, but it's not worth the effort...I have too many other projects on the cars that are a higher priority.
While I had everything apart and a new hole in the dash I figured I'd add a backup camera. And since I was adding a backup camera I added some aux reverse lights. Wired them and the camera to come on automatically in R, and both are wired to a switch so they can be turned on separately at any time. The backup override is on a constant hot so I can do it with the truck shut off too. Couple relays, a diode, some heat shrink & solder...piece of cake!

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
Ok, those OBX headers fit like crap! Both collectors pointed out toward the frame, so I had to reroute them and the driver's side hit the front driveshaft. So I had to pie cut the tubes, ratchet strap it out for some clearance and then weld the tubes back together. Put v-band clamps on it this time too. I like em. Now I'm stainless front to back!

OH a v-band with an internal sleeve for alignment!!!! Where did you get that?! Or did you just slide it right over the existing pipe?

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
These OBX were the only stainless ones available for a GMT400. Although considering their crap fitment, I probably could have made just about anything fit nearly as well.
Jon, that is just slid over the pipe. They are Summit brand v-bands, and the directions say to slide them like that to pilot. You dont normally do that?

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
Slipped v bands and graphite ring groove usually makes for a guarantee fit with a nice tight seal. But ive found it more necessary to implement an inconel flex bellow after them to prevent future issues.

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
OBX does decent work for the import/FWD crowd, but they still have to step up their game for the domestic trucks, from the looks of it.
