Finally upgraded to a 3400 starter!

Post by whiteretta »

My 1 year warranty starter I purchased back in 2011 finally failed me, so... Now that I know they'll fit... Time to upgrade!

I couldn't believe the weight difference... 10x easier to install, and I like not seeing that big bulky brick underneath my front header.

I just wanted to post this for anyone that's still using the older design and is considering switching, a nice visual aid always helps.

Starter technology has come a long way since our cars were built.

The ECO starter I put on my Quad weighed a 1/4 of the original and starts the car so much quicker.

Bolts right on.

I remember going to the yard way back in the day to JUST get a 'mini' -gear reduction- starter for the 2.8L.

Oh man, where has the time gone! lol

Been thinking about getting one. Damn hard for me to get rid of one that still works. Also I hope to get a 3400 engine with low miles somewhere, so then I'll get the starter with it(lol).

Might as well wait then if you already plan to swap!

I love this new starter, good improvement over what was on it...

If you see one with low miles out there PM me. Then I will just have to find someone to put it in.

There are a few in my area for $300 - $500 complete with 100k - 135k on them. I've considered getting one and just dropping it in mine, my 3400 has some internal issues.

I got a 3.5 vvt starter from a 07 Impala on my 3500. Much smaller than the 3400 starter and sounds nice when starting the car lol

sounds like a 3500 starter is smaller... that's nuts.

Assuming this photo for a 3500 starter is correct - it looks like Solenoid is longer then the magnet/brushes housing!

Been thinking of getting a new starter just because my car has 147K on it.
Got a part number or year and make of car that is a fit for my 96 Z-26 V6?

This whole thread is about 3400 and 3500 starters with many listings for years and applications... just read the thread.

Well maybe it's obvious to you and those talking about it but I've read the thread twice and I don't see
any make model and year. If you ever searched for anything on Ebay, you might find if you are not specific,
you get all kinds of stuff that just contains certain keywords. If I go to Rock auto, they ask make model and year.
I looked for regular starters and it seems a 94 3100 starter doesn't work for 96 but then maybe those Ebay cross reference guides aren't so accurate. Soemone said a 3.5 vvt starter from an 07 impala but at Ebay I get listing for
starters for Hondas, Toyotas etc.
So if I search for 2007 Impala starter I get the following.
So will any of these would work?
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... r&_sacat=0
