"The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", the Indy 500 is about much more than which driver will take the checkered flag. It also gives auto makers the opportunity to take a production car and make it worthy of the Indy 500 badge. The Indy pace car represents the best in American automotive technology.

The 1990 Chevy Beretta convertible is truly one of the most unique pace cars in Indy 500 history. Due to quality control issues, the drop-top Beretta model would never see production. Only three Beretta convertibles were used in pace car duty, and were supplemented by a fleet of 30 yellow and 50 teal Corvette convertibles for parade and festival duty.
The pace car was powered by a modified 3.4L V-6 engine, and the front-wheel-drive car featured a roll-bar with integrated strobe lights, as well as strobes added to the trunk face. The car was driven by Chevrolet general manager Jim Perkins.
Even though the convertible was never produced, Chevrolet did issue hardtop pace car replicas in yellow and turquoise. A GM press release indicates that 7500 replicas were made--1500 yellow and 6000 turquoise--while the book "Indy 500 Pace Cars" puts the number of turquoise cars at 3000.

Re: 3700 mile 1990 INDY
Cut that price in HALF and you MIGHT find a buyer (me!) - But at $20k, it's never going to sell unless it goes to some collector car auction, and even then, no one is going to pay $20k for it...

The door sticker for my 90 indy is 17,300 or something like that.... Even when you count inflation it's overpriced.
And yeah I was going to mention those ugly pinstripes but I didn't...

Re: 3700 mile 1990 INDY
To be fair it is 24 year old vinyl. Funny enough though that 3700 mile dash is in the same shape as my 142k one lmao (except i fixed the lifting)themixer wrote:3700 miles and has a warped dash
beretta ≠ build quality
But yeah interior quality wasnt a strong point for these cars.

And what the hell does it say on the trunk? ROFL!
That said it is a nice piece. Maybe $8500 to a collector?
Hell Pattison bought the Pace Car for just under $20K.

Well if it was airbrushed or hand painted and not clear coated, you could probably take it off with wax.
But it's still a little tacky and cheap along with the pin-stripping.
