3400 with 3500 heads nets a 9.15 I don't think the decking you did got you to 9.8...

Stock 3500 is 9.8, that's what I want.

Yes I know I was 9.15:1 before the decking,
But I also know what I was told..

.010 off the heads and .005 off the block IIRC... going by all the hearsay in that thread I don't see that getting you to 9.8...

You would have to shave the heads enough to get the combustion chamber size down to around 29 to 30cc's and shave .005 off the deck to get 9.9 compression with a 20 over piston.

Hit up the CR calculator and see... I don't think the .010 off your heads dropped the CC size down by 2.5cc's but I didn't measure it.

I have .015 off of my heads (work done by Ben previous to you building my engine) and .008 off of my block as you told me previously so .024 total.. And I do have the .020 over pistons remember.

According to milzy .015 off of the heads alone would bring my cr from 9.15:1 to 9.75:1
Plus the .008 off of my block..
So I should have more than 9.8:1 actually..

I forgot that Ben did you head shaving, I had .010 on the quote here and I couldn't find the email with the exact amount off the deck so I guessed with 5 because of the .004 clearance he had when measuring it.

I have a very hard time believing things Milzy says but maybe that's just me. Hes saying that .015 off the heads takes the CC size down to 30cc's? its 32.4 stock. And I accounted for the .020 over pistons.... That CC combo with the decking would net 9.82

But get to real math John said that .010 off the deck would net a .25 increase in compression... and he stated that a .020 shave on the heads would net less that that due to the CC size being smaller than the overall diameter of the bore... SO if you take that .25 increase and multiply it by 80% you get 0.2 increase so that would put you at 9.53(started with 9.33 Static compression with .020 pistons and hybrid setup)... And you had less than .020 shaved on the heads so that would be lesser than .25 increase again... even if you say .015 nets 70% of .25 then you get .175.. So your at 9.7 being generous... and that is all guessing because Milzy didn't post any info about the cylinder head CC size after shaving .015 off it. HE also stated that he was "seeing" .6 increase on his setups with his mods but had no cylinder head measurements to back it up... No idea how you "see" a change in calculated static compression and have no numbers to calculate with.

Without having CC numbers from the heads then we can only guess...

I will be measuring the CC's of the heads on the engine I buy as well as what I pull off my current engine before and after getting those heads prepped for install. I really don't feel like porting another set of heads so I think this will be my third surfacing job on those... Not sure how much was taken off each time or even how I can measure it to see but I'll see what I can come up with for numbers.

Doing some quick math, and using the CR calculator if I get .051 cometic head gaskets then I get .041 quench which is ideal and similar to the 3400 vs the 3500's stock .05 quench, also that drops the gasket cylinder bore down to 3.74 vs 3.80 and If I leave the deck alone my CR comes up at 10.06:1 now if I measure my heads and find out that they are less than 32.4cc's and closer to 31cc's I could be in the realm of 10.25:1... Either way I believe I'm looking at ending up with 10:1 at the minimum.

A little bittersweet... Pulled the driveline today and put it to the side knowing it will only be picked apart and that motor won't be going back in... It's treated me well so far.

Engine bay also needs some attention...

Yeah the heated garage is nice... I still wish it was insulated though because it's a pain to get warm and the obviously it doesn't stay warm over night. Oh well someday I will take the time to insulate it somehow.

Thermostat keeps mine at a perfect 60* all the time. haha I'll have to set it at 75* or so when it's time to lay paint.

You also only have enough room for one project at a time ;) :P

Current status of the car...

Harness out..

Pulled the brake booster this time so I could properly seal above that area... Bay needs proper prep to before re-coating... That will teach me to cut corners...

You going to rattlecan the bay - or a 2 stage or single stage gun coat?

Bay was coated with bedliner back in 2010 IIRC... Poor prep is what screwed me in some areas. I'll end up painting it the same as I did before. I'm not about to waste my time/money 2 staging or single staging the bay raspberry just to have it get scratched up when installing components. I made the decision a while back to not paint it body color and I'm not about to go back on that one now.

I mean it looks good when all done so why change it?

Whats your point... I don't see raspberry metallic on their color chart.

Referring to the Underhood black? 22 bux a can... Yikes.
