Arc from plug/boot on cylinder #5

Post by CorvetteBeretta »

I'm getting an arc from plug/boot to exhaust manifold gasket shield on plug #5 I cant tell if its coming off the boot or the plug itself. The car has been sitting for 3 years so I'm thinking the plugs might be shot and its not constant it happens on and off. I checked the plug wire it seems to be ok anybody have any suggestions...

What does the plug body look like? Picture?

Either the wire and or plug is bad.

Swap the wire with the #3 cylinder and see if the arc moves to that cylinder's spark plug. If it moves, bad wire. If not, bad plug.

Check Rock Auto if you need wires. For my year they had clearance sets for ultra cheap! Like less than half price. They may have some for your car too.

So I changed my plugs ( used e3's) when I pulled the wires off the coil pack (closest to the trans) I think it fires #5 and #3, both contacts were rusted even the insides of the boot were rusted. So it looks like I need a new coil pack and plug wires, I'm also going to change the ICM since I have never changed it. I cleaned it as best I could considering all my tools are at my shop and its still arcing I'm not surprised.... I will get some pics up

If it's still arcing the the wires are crap.. just replace the wires.

Someone is not using dielectic grease..........

Plugs should be AC or NGK, others will cause problems. Just FYI.
