what I mean are the holes there for the fan to drop in?
Unfortunately not. The holes weren't in the right location in the lower core support until '90.

Asylum wrote:Well I just went down to the garage and tried it.

Started up the Quad, let it run for 10 minutes with the new fan on to make sure everything worked, disconnected the Negative battery terminal, got a very tiny spark, and it stopped dead!

Re-connected it and it started right up.

I think you need even a dead battery to complete the connection.

That's all I can offer!

WOW! You've got guts, I wouldn't risk damaging my car trying that.
I hope it works out for him if he tries it.

Buy a drill.

OP: remember that the battery just has to be electrically connected (like, via jumper-cables), not actually installed. How about just using a $40 jump-box? Good for lots of other things too, like emergencies. %)

That would be an easy solution if the holes were round....

Sorry, I really don't mean that as snappy as it comes across -it has been a long day, so please accept my apologies. But I am very familiar with the various cooling fans used on these cars, and J-bodies, and N-bodies, and I have been shaking my head over a lot of this for a while now (not this thread specifically, since it was about a battery, although... Never mind). Cooling fans are a really simple issue to deal with on these cars, if you aren't trying to make a 600 horsepower monster made to run in Arizona in the summertime, or a museum-quality 'perfect' as-built original. There are so many donor cars out there. Do watch the different radiator mounts though (I refer to the plastic and rubber "C" pads at the top of the radiator that bolt to the upper core support), as some of them located the radiator back ~1/2-3/4 inch, just enough to let it get slowly eaten by a hungry fan designed for a different radiator mount or a different thickness radiator core.

I'll just get off line now... :fool: Sorry again. Back on topic, please?
Edited: I really don't want to be an @$$... This isn't bstuff.
