Small but critical update:

Pan is welded up. Ended up having to build a custom oil pickup tube because the factory one lands too far forward.

Thanks GM for threading the block under the adapter. The FWD oil adapter wont clear the steering rack. That OPSU can be put straight into the block. I had it on a elbow to clear the FWD headers.

RWD pan finally installed.

I dropped it in to see how everything fits. It looks just about perfect. Ground clearence, engine position, hood closability(?) is right where I want it.

Now I can start finishing motor mounts, make trans mount, build steering shaft, etc.


But wait I have like 4 drift days and more 24hr lemons this month.

Yeah 3rd gen camaro v6 trans as of now. Looking to upgrade to a 4th gen 3.8 trans however... I heard there a little stronger and use a internal slave. Trans tunnel is pretty tight and if I can eliminate the slave cylinder off the side it might make my life easier.

Got to do some work this weekend. Engine is finally centered in car and mounts are partially welded. I hope this is the final engine mount revision.... I think this is the 4th set now?

My fears about the bellhousing not fitting the tunnel came true. I would really like a internal slave trans. They use a different input shaft however... But I am pretty sure I can make some kind of clutch and flywheel combo work with s10/camaro/beretta parts.


So I am on the lookout for a 3.8 fbody T5. But for now I will continue on with the current trans and upgrade when I get the chance.

Are the pics in this thread dead? They show up for me but I suspected they would be lost in the photobucket changes. If they still show up ill post some update pics. Ive been slowly picking at things but not really posting about it.


New custom control arms are in the works. Rack is mounted and steering column complete. New pedals/ slave cylinders. Newer T5 with internal slave for more tunnel space. Engine might be in its final resting point, or I might move it 6 more times.

Developing new control arms. I need to add caster because FWD cars typically have low caster numbers factory, perhaps for torque steer reasons I don't know. I am building tubular arms with adjustable heim joints to offer caster adjustability along with track width and camber. The arms are longer than stock to increase inboard clearance for steering angle. They fit the stock subframe and utilize a energy suspension front bushing.

17x8+10 wheel with a 225/45/17 gets pretty good angle before rub. This should be enough to get me started.

Though now with the longer arms, we do have a fitment problem with 2deg camber. I can gain a little back rolling the fenders, running a higher offset, etc. Not worried about this right now.

I bought a wildwood clutch and brake pedal assembly. I decided to go manual, dual master cylinder brakes and ditch the elaborate remote power boost thing thing I built. Its simpler and cleaner. Its mounted but still needs some configuring. no pics of that yet.

Steering shaft is connected to the e46 rack. I shifted the notorious beretta "angled steering" so the stock column is straight now. I needed this for steering shaft to starter clearance anyway.

I bought a t5 out of a 99 3.8 Camaro. This one has the internal slave and is a tad stronger than the 80's one that's in the car. The internal slave buys me some valuable clearance so I can finalize the tunnel and start thinking exhaust routing. Also has electric speedo incase I want to keep the stock cluster functional.

Hopefully ill have more updates soon. Or maybe I will leave it untouched for 6 months.
