And She's Dead...maybe

Post by ronaconda »

40 miles outside of Des Moines, Iowa she died...heard some noises, lost power so I popped it into neutral and that was all she wrote. With nearly 247K I believe the engine is done - it will not physically turn over. More will be known when I can look at it either at Ryan's or when I get it home. Grabbed that Million Mile Award before it happened though!!! :D

A HUGE thank you to Chad and Ryan for being with me when it happened - I honestly don't know what I would have done without either of these two guys!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Updates will follow as soon as I know more.

Sorry to hear that Ron!! In Iowa of all states too :runsies:

This just means you have 364 days to resurrect her for BFest 2011! :D

I'm taking it Chad's car got driven a little more than anticipated on the way home, and your car got the trailer ride?

Thank goodness for people who trailer (just like Ken helping out Cliff and I when I killed Cliff's car in Niagara!).

Keep up the updates!

Unfortunately it's true. I didn't get a chance to look at it at Ryan's so it will have to wait until I get home. Talking to people it sounds as though the crank/rod bearings went. SO...it seems that if the bearings are gone I get some time to get to decide what I want to do. So stay tuned for updates because, depending on what I decide to do, I may be picking some of your brains for advice!!!

Find a nice 3500 and I'll get Billy to build you a smokin' 3t40, ship it to you and then you can really have fun!

3t40?? pfffft! 5-speed FTW!! :D Render that first gear useless!

Ron, you're only problem doing a 3500 swap is finding the side motor mount that will make it fit on our early cars. I've been wanting one so I can at least have one when I'm ready for my swap. I don't feel comfortable cutting up my car and welding a mount like Woody did.

My 3t40 hasn't been beaten by a 5-speed N/A anything yet!

Even when the motor was dead stock.

I don't feel comfortable welding in a new mount either, HOWEVER, i know that there is a scaled drawing of that front mount out there somewhere, in fact i may even have it, and i feel VERY comfortable building the 3x00 mount for the early cars like ours.

Plus, it helps to have family that works in a steel fabrication shop!!! ;)

...aren't there abunch of these floating around from other manufacturers? In fact I think your two home (Chad) should have had one you could copy. I've seen a few and installed one in someone else's car (a car I think Cliff, Pat, and I might claim for our own soon <cough> Gor's <cough>). They really don't seem that techical - you just need to be sure it is made the correct length for either the auto or 5 spd...

I am happy to help Ron. Thats what we are here for. I am sure that anyone else in the group would have done the same thing for you had they had a truck and trailer. I will have to bring my truck and trailer again next year since this year it came in good use. Glad I brought the truck! Next year I am making a "BerettaFest 2011 Official Hauler" sticker for my back window! lol

ya...I had to drive the car more then I thought....BUT... it ran GREAT all the way from Iowa to Denver, Colorado. So...I added another 600 miles give or take. I think Ron just wanted to drive my truck for the COLD A/C. I had to sit in my car with no A/C, and watch some dude drive my truck with my women in the passenger seat!!!!

Just kidding. Glad to have helped Ron....anytime.

Women, plural, as in, more than one.

So a VERY small update that may make a decision for me...the crank will not turn by hand.
