Gasket?

Post by BerettaLove32 »

Toady my car starts smoking from under the hood and I pull over and sure enough there's smoke coming from right under the power steering pump. I can't see exactly where it's coming from but it smells like burnt coolant. Possibly a lower intake gasket? And if so how hard is that to replace on a 3.1?

Sure its not the W/P it self?
Or the Tree"'" at the bottom where the coolant hoses connect?

That's what I thought when I saw this post...possible water pump. ÂÂÂ Because of where they start leaking, and with the pulley being kinda bowl shaped, it makes it leak weird.  Of course, if it is the water pump, then there would probably be a straight line of coolant spray on the hood liner.  A nice tell-tale sign.

I replaced the WP not too long ago, after looking at it for long time today it's the belt rubbing against metal and it smells like coolant kind of. It's rubbing for some reason, I think a pullet is borken, I'm going to figure it out tomorrow.

Sounds like the spring casing for the belt tensioner broke in the tensioner where it connects to the car causing the pulley to go off by a bit. The bolt it still holding it in place, but the spring is kind of pushing the pulley in towards the motor. Take your pass. wheel off and look up and to the left for the tensioner, if you see spring exposed or its noticably crooked then thats deffinitely your problem. As for the coolant, I would say its your intake manifold, judging by where you say its coming from, and if it isn't leaking now, it will be soon enough. Good luck

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Never had this issue, good luck.

Ok it was my power steering pump pulley. It broke off. I think that the pump itself is seized up since I have a leak in the rack and have been driving around with no power steering. ******* car.
