z26 wheels on a base??

Post by themadness »

yay or nay?

guy near by has/may have a set with tires. i need new tires and i suspect that one of my wheels might be warped. i i hope not but it might be. since a set of used tires will cost about the same as the z wheels i was thinking about just getting them if the tires are in good enough shape.

so what i have is:
new tires on a possibly warped set of wheels

or

a set of z wheels that are on tires that may need to be replaced(ad says "tires have some tread left"

i was also considering how the z's will look on my base.

what do you guys think?

I have them on my base. Looks just fine and a hell of alot better than the AR wheels that I had on it.

Shouldn't be an issue. I have seen several base's with the Z wheels. I like the way my Z looks with them, I have never wanted to change them to another style. Not once. lol

Just be sure to have them balanced again so you don't have any odd vibrations. You never know if they had a weight thrown or what not.

What AR wheels did you have?

I honestly think base models look better with Z wheels than Z26's do lol.

If you were wondering how it looked, here's 95b_rettagrrl's base on Z26 wheels, and my 85 Camaro Berlinetta. Her car is also lowered on Eibachs and has had the spoiler and solid grill added.

They were called Estrella series AR95. They did stick out a little more than they should have, not enough to rub. Hell I think that helped in the turns a bit. Anyway they were on the car when I bought it and are no longer in good shape.

Madness: If you buy used wheels make sure to clean the back of them before you balance.

Well the Z26 wheels that I bought had tons of caked on grease. One spot was about three inches wide and 1/8 inch tall. Not all are like that, but if there is any it can throw off the balance. If you want the best balance you can get then you should clean the back.

The Base in that above photo is one of my absolute favorite Base models. I've seen photos of that before and it looks so clean.

Back to the OP, I remember the Estrellas. It seems like everyone in my town had them, that was why I went with the SR back in '03 when I bought my AR wheels.

That base is 3400 swapped and has been to like 5 BFEST's, it's not that clean anymore, actually it's not clean at all, the rockers and door jams are gone, and the rest of the car is a notorious GM peeler! The past 7 or so Winters have destroyed it and it is going to be parted and scrapped soon! Sad but true... :(
