90 Quad 5 Speed, Fulton NY
I removed it from my 90 GTZ when I made the 3400 swap, it has 89k on it. The JY wants a $50.00 core for the auto trans. I will take $50.00 + Shipping from 13069 NY(Weight= 102 lbs).
If no takers by 2-12-12 I will just use it for the core.

Re: 90 Quad 5 Speed, Fulton NY
This is a good deal, but I don't need quad gearing for my v6. Somebody should snag it though.

Re: 90 Quad 5 Speed, Fulton NY
But quads and the V6's shared the same gearing because it's the same trans (minus bellhousing)...woody90gtz wrote:This is a good deal, but I don't need quad gearing for my v6. Somebody should snag it though.
88-91 Quad and 86-94 V6 is 3.61 FDR
92-94 Quad is 3.94 FDR
W41 cars are also 3.94, but with a different 5th gear.
So what gearing is it that you want? lol

Re: 90 Quad 5 Speed, Fulton NY
Info from Wiki, I can't make sense of which "later version" they are referring to when it comes to the gear change.
Gear ratios
The topic of available gear ratios has been widely debated due to the numerous applications of this transaxle. The 1987 GM Getrag Service Manual[1] confirms that there are at least two versions of the Getrag 282. According to the manual, the two versions were sold under 5 different part numbers based on body and engine usage. The first version, RPO code MG2 was used for all GM V6 applications (FWD and the RWD Fiero) and the second version, RPO code MG1, was used for the 2.0 L turbocharged engine used Pontiac and Buick. Gear ratios are given below, as taken from the GM Product Service Training Manual.
MG2 and MG1 ratios:
1st gear: 3.50:1
2nd gear: 2.05:1 (MG1: 2.19:1)
3rd gear: 1.38:1
4th gear: 0.94:1
5th gear: 0.72:1
Reverse: 3.41:1
Final drive ratio: 3.61:1
A later version was designed for the high-revving, High-Output Quad 4 engine. This transmission used a 3.50/2.05 1st/2nd, 1.38 3rd, 1.03:1 4th, .80:1 5th, and 3.94:1 final drive[citation needed].
The Getrag 282 used in Quad 4-equipped 1990 to 1991 Pontiac Grand Prixs and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supremes is rumored to use a 3.77/2.19 1st/2nd gear while retaining the 3.61:1 final drive ratio[citation needed].
An export-only version is confirmed to have been built for use in Oldsmobile Silhouette vans sold in some worldwide markets as an Opel Silhouette. It was mated to the Quad 4 engine and uses a 3.77/2.19/1.38/1.03/.80/3.94 gearset[citation needed].
Mixing of gearsets can be achieved due to the similarity between the various transmissions, but some gears must be interchanged in sets. First and second gear are integral to the input shaft and cannot be interchanged independently. All transmissions have a third gear ratio of 1.38:1. However, third and fourth gear are clustered on the counter shaft which was available with two different fourth gear ratios: 1.03:1 or .94:1. Fifth gear is independently interchangeable and available with a .80:1 and .72:1 ratio.

Re: 90 Quad 5 Speed, Fulton NY
i'm pretty sure they changed quads to 3.94 in 92 and v6 only had 3.61 available.
Re: 90 Quad 5 Speed, Fulton NY
Stephs right. 90 Quads and before had the same exact gearing as the v6's. V6 gearing never changed up till the last Getrags in 94. 91 Quad's had a lower first I think, may have been the 2nd but that was still 3.61 FDR. 92 is when Quads got the 3.94.

Re: 90 Quad 5 Speed, Fulton NY
FDR is the same as early quad, but 5th gear is different. I already turn about 2600rpm at 75mph in 5th at .72:1...more revs would not be advantageous. I thought 1-2 were deeper as well, but maybe they are the same. I do know for sure that I do not need deeper gears anywhere...that's why I was looking at the F40: to knock the revs down some.

2600 is low at 75... if you want lower I'll build you a 4t60 LMAO!
Find out what the RPO code is of his car, that will answer your question on ratio.

Maybe low for a Subaru! My Camaro runs 1800rpm at 75. F40 would have been 2100rpm...3X00-Modified wrote:2600 is low at 75... if you want lower I'll build you a 4t60 LMAO!
