Euro Solid Grill vs. US Solid Grill - Difference?

Post by Styluss »

So, I noticed a while back when I was taking pictured for my for sale thread that it seems I have two different sized front grills in my possession. Take a look at this photo:

Image

I'm 90% sure that the top grill came to me in a package of parts from one of our overseas boys. Mr. Matella perhaps? If this is the case, then I am led to believe that the Euro grills are smaller than the US grills. Can anyone add some information or verify this claim? I would be happy to go out and measure the width of my current grill if someone in Euro-land will do the same...

That is strange, not that this will be of much help, but are the euro lights wider maybe?

Looks like its shorter as well.

Wow i have never noticed this... maybe someone can meassure another z04 grill from a real euro car and compare to the US ones.
This could be because of the euro headlights like GTU89 said but it seems like the euro headlights fit without problems on a US spec z04 car too... weird.

Just to let you know Ryan, its not me that sent you that grill :)

I know exactly why that is. Different bumper package. Most likely they used that in place of the open grill on the base style? The base bumpers had a higher lip vs the Z bumpers. I would about bet that the solid panel you got from over seas matches in dimension exactly to a base open grill. Check it. But it also looks narrower, so maybe the Euro lights take up more space?

What's really cool about that though, is you can use this as a direct fit for those with a base bumper without having to cut the bumper cover or the bottom of the grill to get it to fit! lol

I've never noticed any difference, and I think i have like 4 solid grilles here, at leas one of them is from euro car, early version tho. I need to double check.

That might just be a production year\factory\mold difference, nothing else.

Well, the other possible is that someone has modified that one, before he got it to adapt it to fit other headlights or something. Maybe? lol

Not a z24 maybe a base the z24 grille had a actual bowtie that came out and i never saw the middle tab on both grilles on either my old base grille or z24 one so i doubt its from that car.

One of my euro Zs, eventhough officially converted to euro, has still the us lights because its a 91. The 92 Z however was equipped with the euro lights. The grille is absolutely identical, and also it is the same size as the eggcrate grille.

I didn't find any size differences from mine.

If you really have found bigger than stock grille, that's cool, would make the humongous gaps smaller. I want to know where it's from :)

Check yourselves people...

Euro lights are not wider. No one that has ever done the conversion has had to cut their grill down width wise.

This is definitely not a Z24 grill as I know the difference and it is a big one. Take note of the exact same mounting tabs.

And Weba, I have not found a larger grill, I have found a smaller one. The larger of the two in the photo is the same size as the 6 other grills I have in my garage. It is the top one that is smaller.

Furthermore, if the small one fits without cutting the bumper, well... I need to find a new bumper! Damn!

I'll get measurements on both of them soon and I'll try to look for identifying marks for you Cack.
