Recommended oil in our quads
Exactly what year did they stop putting zinc in oil, cause I know now-a-days there I'd no longer any zinc in oil except for royal purple and I think it's vr1 valvoline racing oil and I don't think zinc would hurt these motors but what would you guys recommend, I just don't like the fact of these newer oils destroying expensive new parts of the crap load of funds I drop into my motors. In case some of you guys don't know what zinc is, it's basically a wear agent it prevents excessive wear to metal parts in your motor, itakes your oil really slippery and had less friction, in our case is good right who likes parts that get worn down to piss poor oil right? Gimme your vote

Re: Recommended oil in our quads
I would switch to Shell Rotella diesel oil, whether its T6 5W30 synthetic (fantastic oil) or just plain old 15W40, they will have more developed additive packages to protect better. I've been using their conventional 15W40 religiously for the past 5 years in all my engines, including my 6.2L diesel GMC Jimmy, 6.0L 2500HD Silverado, 1.6L Honda Civic, 4.3L V6 GMC Sierra and my 95 Corsica w/2.2L.
I have yet to test out the oil in the Corsica yet, but I just finished a head gasket replacement and the oil change was one of the last things to do. I expect the same quality results I got with my other vehicles, nothing major but an overall happier engine.
I've run 15W40 diesel oil in my gas trucks all winter long, with no issues. It's usually -20*C and dips down to -40*C (same in Fahrenheit) and down to a low of -65*C during certain periods. The oil didn't cause any cold starting problems, in fact, it got rid of the lifter tick in my 4.3L, 6.0L and my 6.2 diesel and prevented it from doing it on startup.

Re: Recommended oil in our quads
I just run a cheap basic oil and mid-grade filter on my quad! It makes no sense to me to run a full synthetic or synthetic blend even... Those types of oils weren't even available when our cars were made so..... $25 oil/filter changes for this guy!

the newer rotella diesel 15w40 oils dont have high amounts of zinc in it. I believe they stopped using it quite a few years ago. Oil with high amounts of zinc will cause your converter to fail prematurely also.
I use the rotella T6 5w30 in the tahoe. I will probably use Schaffers 10w30 for the Camaro just cause it runs on the warmer scale. I use the Mobil 1 15w50 for the 78 Vette which does have zinc for the flat tappet cam OHV. the 03 f350 5.4 i've been using motorcraft 5w20 and motorcraft filter its getting close to 300k miles now.
I'd leave the diesel oils for the diesels. unless you have an oil consumption problem.
If your worried about your quad I would just run plain Mobil 1 5w30. I think a good filter will be better than any witchbrew oil. we service fleets that change oil every 24000 miles. most engine wear occurs within the first 3000 miles of an oil change anyways. My .02...
