i have never bought a new set of tires... never kept any one particular car on the road long enough to go through a set! lol

got a set of bridgestone turenza's put on some chevy z71 rims for my low mazda truck a couple years ago. 205/55r16's mounted and ballanced for $200 ($50 per tire, and no tax)... they had 90% tread left when mounted.

got 'new to me' tires for the beretta stock rims, 2x hankook ventus? 195/50r16's for the front, and another brand made by hankook 205/50r16's for the rear. about $100 for all four, mounted and ballanced, i'll need to get 2 more in a year and a half-2 years to replace the ones i put on the rear which are close to the wearbar.

is buying used tires stupid? i think not...

and yes there are 'ford escort tires' and there are 'bmw tires'... each brand has cheap sh!t and good sh!t, a lot of what comes stock on any vehicle that is mass produced is basic crap... 'does it hold air? ok. does it roll half as$ smooth? ok. will it get traction in snow... if you put sand bags over the drive wheels? yeah maybe. OK! oh wait, are they cheap!? but of course!' ok we'll take 2.5 million of them over the course of the next 5 years.

Guess that's the difference. How many people have owned their car long enough to put new tires on and drive them bald? LOL And I highly doubt many of those same people can say they have gotten 75k-80k out of a set. Sorry, but for me that is worth the cost. 3100=babying? Please!

Get a grip! LMAO

I love cornering more that I love to drive it hard and fast. Cornering in my Z has always been awesome. I often take 15-25 mph curves at high speeds. Depending on the curve of course, but I love putting the tires on the edge of squealing and sliding. Most of the time I can't get them to do more than hiss at me as I g-force my way through a turn. People grab onto the dash and stuff if they have never ridden with me in the car. I had one guy laughing, said that's the way to take corners!!

So I do not baby my tires. I simply take care of them, and try to stick with stock or stock equivalents. Maybe its because I haven't tried others? Sure. I have driven other cars with different wheels, and not ONE has gripped the road or handled curves like my Z. Worst one ever was a 95 5.0 mustang, complete with 5 speed and side pipes. That thing was a dog as far as mustangs go, but cornering? IT SUCKED! Sounded like I was fleeing the cops when going around a corner hard. And suspension was awful.

I guess the whole point of this (again) is there is nothing wrong with doing decent and providing you maintain them, they will last a long time, gaining you in most cases a better value for your money in the long term. But that is my opinion.

Its just that babying my car doesn't compute really, with how I drive. I give it what it wants, make sure its kept in good condition, and drive it like its stolen a lot. LOL

i'm with you as well, i'm not gentle on tires... well my truck is quite underpowered... carbed chevy 2.8. so it is much funner to drive in the rain, but i still get it a bit sideways through some corners dry. the 31"s dont help at all either!

True. But just because they are made by the same company you cant assume they are are the same build type/quality. I hate them

I have Falken FK452 tires on my Beretta, they were classified as ultra summer performance Luxury tires... And I run Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires on the Legacy.

I'm happy with both choices, they are quite and they both grip very well.

Falkens were $124 Each and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires were $130 each...

I've learned to never trust cheap ass tires. ;) I also look for reviews where they state road noise, there is nothing I hate more than a tire that hums or wines the whole time your driving.

why are factory wheels selling for over 100 dollars each on some of the tire sites? i was thinking i could get a set of 20 year old wheels for around 150 bucks. most of what i have come across is way more than that. why?

You need to clarify what your looking for... Are you looking for FACTORY RIMS? and if thats the case then $100 is NOT a high price... They don't make them anymore, or they are only made by reproduction companies and no matter how old they are the aluminum used to make them is going to cost money. NO where can you find a new set of 4 rims for $150. Sorry but it sounds like your just whining about paying the price for OEM parts and well OEM parts are NEVER cheap.

If you want a $150 SET of rims, start searching E-bay or Craigslist and re-finish them because thats the only way you'll find something that cheap.

not whining at all. seems to me a set of 20 year old wheels wouldnt cost 4 or 5 hundred dollars. discontinued or not. sure, i'm on a budget and a little cheap at the same time. but old wheels, not new reproductions, shouldnt cost that much. regardless. even the steelies i have seen are running close to 100 a piece. highway robbery in my opinion.

Only if they were used. There is always a possibility of a set of brand new ones floating around, never installed.

Now your confusing me... "Tire sites" as you stated don't sell "used" rims so why would you question original not being new? If what your looking at online is an "original design" base, GT, GTZ, GTU, or Z26 rim then odds are they are either New OLD STOCK, or OEM replica's.

Materials aren't cheap... bottom line. No rims brand new are as cheap as you are wanting, so call it highway robbery all you want but unless you want wooden wagon wheels you need to expand your budget and save longer.

I think you fail at shopping. Junkyards and craigslist. I know that I am fortunate to have good junkyards here and fcan get a set of 4 aluminum wheels for like 80 bucks but you should be able to find something similar where your at.
