Did some work today on the car, Got the firewall sealed good I hope. I found a lot of areas that we once thought caused the dreaded firewall leak and under further inspection those areas do not lead into the cabin. I also found a lot of cracked sealer on the seams around where the brake booster is attached.
I also coated the engine bay with bed coating... I'm debating coating the upper portion with body color paint or just leaving it... I'm afraid that if I leave it just black there wont be enough contrast with other parts since most of the other stuff is black. The other parts that are black are coated with a black textured paint, not the undercoating.
A few pics.
For comparison this shows how much of the firewall is actually visible when done... But the strut towers are right out there so I think I'm going to at least paint them

Ok so wait... You guys are thinking leaving it black? I was thinking of doing that but then I was afraid that it would look like I just spray bombed the bay... I'm trying to accent some parts so that I have the contrast I'm looking for, but I was debating painting about half way up with Raspberry paint.

As much as I hate raspberry, the towers, etc. need to be body colored or it looks half assed. At least to me anyway.3X00-Modified wrote:Ok so wait... You guys are thinking leaving it black? The other option is to paint your engine differently and it will stand out against the black backdrop of the all-black engine bay. People gave me crap about my red valve covers on the 95Z, but it kept the engine from disappearing into the bay.

that's why i tried to pick another color besides black. i originally had everything black but when it was done it just kinda disappeared.woody90gtz wrote: People gave me crap about my red valve covers on the 95Z, but it kept the engine from disappearing into the bay.
i'm with woody on this one. the shock towers would look better body color.

I love it the way it is. I think your black engine, in that bay, with how your hood is painted will tie it all in.
But hey... what do I know about clean engine bays?

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
i think you should leave it all black. and maybe paint the line in the 3500uim red or even raspberry would make the engine stand out imo. i like the all black look. and yea kurt what do you know about clean engine bays?

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
I'm really split on what to do, half of me says to paint it the othe half says to leave it.
I have the same fears as discussed with the engine hiding in all the black, but I think it should stand out if I do the accents as I have before... it's not like everythig is black.
I'm going to do some more accents on the firewall for some of the parts but as little as you really end up seeing I'm not sure if it matters much.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
i say leave it, maybe woody can photoshop the picture with your motor in it, but with the black paint on the towers and firewall???
imo id leave it how it is and drop in the motor.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
I'd paint it. Came painted from the factory in body colour. It just looks really cheap / half assed if you leave it all black.
