The "race ported" 3500 heads flow the exact same as the "Nitrous/boosted" ones. Obviously the same deal, just with all the neat stuff added.
Oh well. Go Big or Go Home I guesss.

Yeah, your paying for this
I also think I will be getting valves next year possibly... I'm not sure though. I know I cant afford them now that's all.
I wish I knew his angles for his valve job though... I need one done and I'm not sure what to tell the guy.the best valvetrain components are used, including Manley retainers, keepers, race flow intake and race master stainless valves, and PAC 1518 springs. The valve spring pockets are machined to increase the spring install height to 1.760" for adequate room before coil bind on any of the matching camshafts we have available up to .610" lift.

Which head gaskets do I want. The fancy Cometic's? THEIR specs say .050 thick for a 3500 but they only offer a .045 or .051 and the default is .060
I'm thinking .051
Or I can just buy the stock ones in the kit they sell.
And I think I'm going to spring for the ARP studs.
EDIT. I have actually contacted him about the valve job as he indicates two depending on the lift.

I doubt he'll tell you what he does though.
As far as the Cometic's, very nice looking product, I went with those and I bought the 3500 ones .060 thick... I'm missing where you can't find them.
I actually just got them today.

According to their own article on quench, which pretty much agrees with what I was taught, they recommend a .050" gasket for the 3500.

Yeah your correct, I forgot that the 3500 the gasket is .060 but the pistons are a -0.010 vs a 3400 where they are -0.020 so thats why I need .060 to get quench and you would want just .010 under that to get optimal.
Go for the .051 then if thats as close as they have, because yes .040 quech is optimal.
.045 would get you a .035 quench, but with the big cam I would suggest keeping it no smaller than .040 for clearance so go with the .051's. Also you will end up with a 10:1 compression over the 9.7:1 stock. The .045's get you 10.18:1

Re: 3500 N/A auto in the 12's?
Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything before I punch in the AMEX number.
Ported 3500 heads with the Manley Race Valves.
Cometic .051" head gaskets.
ARP head stud kit.
Fel Pro metal intake gasket set.
TCE lifter spring set.
New head bolts.
I already have the cam, pushrods and valve springs. $544.
Timing chain set coming from GM. $128.
WOT-Store cart is at $1659 with shipping.
Anything else?? This little bugger better be quick!
Anyway......It's gonna be fun!!

What bore size are you gonna get for the head gaskets? if you stick with the default of 3.720" won't that slightly increase compression vs the stock 3.8" gasket as well?
And didn't I read something possibly from Superdave NOT to go any thinner than the stock .060" for the head gasket? Or was that just before when we had no options between .060 and .040?

Going from a 3.8 to a 3.72" bore size on the gasket increases compression like .06 of a point. Yeah, I answered my own question.

I'll talk to you later Rodney, however if you look at the WOT store and the Cometic gasket info, they actually recommend a .050" gasket to achieve the .040 quench in a 3500.
The closest they offer is .051". Close enough.

The WOT Store is SOO confusing when it comes to these heads.
They all flow the same, but the differences in the packages offered is INSANE!
I need another beer!
