Turboing a bonestock 3.1

Post by Guest »

My question is how does the stock computer act with about 4 to 5 PSI of boost. I would like to keep it a daily driver so dependability is a factor. I had thought about trying to Twin turbo it with 2 small turbos off of a ford 2.3 or crysler 2.2, but i dont know how well it would work. I will be doing all the fabbing so it shouldnt cost me to terribly much to do it.

If anyone around eastern North Carolina needs any headwork done i can port them however you want them, I can grind valves, do up to 5 angle valve jobs or more (which is pointless). I still dont have the stuff to ream or replace valve guides. Just figured i would get the word out. If anyone wants to get up with me my email is andrew_arnette@yahoo.com . There is a underscore between the names of my email address.

The stock computer can't read anything past atmospheric pressure with the 1-Bar MAP sensor, try a TGP setup and a 3.1 can reliably run 8-9, and even be run up around 12 without probems, look into a Turbo Grand Prix, you will find that out pretty quick

Edit - Good luck fitting two turbos in there, people have a hard enough time find a place for one, just get a T-3 60-Trim or so and you will get good spool and still have power thru top end, no use for twin turbos the engine has enough low end to spool a small single turbo.   The TGPs stock T-25 has zero turbo lag on a 3.1

I've tried to run 8lbs on a stock MPFI like you are bout to try...

Didn't work right.

Just do a TGP swap, or have the memcal burnt.

Well considering a simple 3400 swap will get you in the mid/low 14s, I'm sure if you can hook it up and get it tuned right, it could/should be doable.  Not many 3.1/5spd Turbo Beretta around to find out

I don't have a 3.1, so this is only a curiosity question. Does the TGP turbo setup work on any 3.1 Beretta? I mean, it doesn't have to be a specific year does it?

I can't see why it wouldn't work on any 3.1MPFI.  Just the crossover manifold will need to be custom.

here is the problem(S) with the set up you propose. 1. ford and dodge (crap) on a chevy, have you gone mad? dont cross breed! use a turbo off a diesel (or at least a GM turbo) make your own pipes. 2. more boost means you need more fuel, you will be starving for fuel, unless you spice up the batch. 3. cam timing very important. 4. you will be forever known as the "lord of the rings" if you over pressurize, (or worse). 5. you must control the waste gate some how. 6 you MUST move the air intake temp and air flow meters. 7. stock cat will not flow enough to support two turbos, (maybe one) exhaust will find a way out, if it dont blow the pipes apart the head bolts will snap in two. If you really want alot more power from under your hood e-mail me and I'll tell you how to swap a 4-cam alm. head 3.4 into your beretta. (go from 150-160hp to 350-400hp in a weekend.)(with no tubro or nos)e.t.'s at 11sec.+or-

1) 3.4 DOHC motor will not fit Berettas, because the heads are too big.
2) I'd like to see one swap one and get it running in a weekend.
3) How will you get 350-400hp without a power adder on that motor?

Prove it then, lets see proof of 350-400.  I along with most here are going to raise the B.S. flag until its done.  The 60*V6 guys will probably say the same unless its some one-off totally custom high-end race engine running 10,000+ rpm, custom intakes, etc. etc.  Oh yeah and lets see proof of it STREET legal, NOT racing gas...
