update! i'm due for new pads! mainly one side, i think i need a caliper rebuild... seems to be sticking a little. i also have 10k hard km on the brakes since install...

stoptech or powerstop ceramics?

anyone using Carquest "red" or "blue" ceramic pads? or know what brand they actually are they are going for about $25 ("red")

They are probably re branded EBC pads. They are the only company I know of that makes a "red" and "blue" pad.

might be raybestos... googled them for a bit. some say they might last 15k miles. for the price, and if they are decent, i don't mind that.

powerstops ordered from rockauto. hope they make it in 2 days (like last time i ordered). i'm almost at my rivets. $22 on close out. red ceramics at Carquest are made by Raybestos, i called and check they had them in stock, but then he told me they were $39... so i opted for the powerstops which people seem to like a bit better.

So are your rotors still in good shape?

I know I had a set of slotted rotors on my Civic and it ate through regular pads like they were biscuits.

I'll probably just stick with blank rotors, but make the switch to N-body stuff at some point, but I would like to see these as a performance alternative.

so far so good! rotors are decent, they are rusted on the edges (where they were painted black, not a big surprise considering the price). i have a sticky caliper. i'll check it out and clean everything when i get the new pads

well i yanked the slider pins out of the caliper today and cleaned them all up with the bench wirewheel, and actually one side needed the grinding stone to smooth it out... so there's my tip for brakes! actually take the time to pull those out, and then lube them back up fresh.

so far so good... it's been 10 km... lol

Always a must-do when having the calipers off.

Or you could just by new ones for $2-$3 each if they are really bad.

yes absolutely. great deal on new ones at that price.

also, so other don't think it's that hard to do... you don't need to pull the caliper off of the car to get the slider pins out. makes sure you have a length of copper house wiring, or something to tie the caliper to your spring so it's not resting on the flex hose, and simply use a C-clamp, the allen bit or key you used to unbolt the bolts, and a short socket extension if you need to push a bit deeper to get it out.

insert the bolt back in the way to normally goes, with the allen bit/key on the end square enough so that you can get a clamp to kind of stay on it... gradually push the slider pin/bolt combo out. gets to a point where you may need to pull the allen bit out as it goes as far as it can go, then use a small socket extension to push the bolt/pin combo the rest of the way out until it's movable with your hands. now clean the F out of it (inside an out), or replace. when re-installing, smother a decent amount of fresh "brake hardware lubricant" on the outside of the pins, and the outside of the bolts as well for good measure.

Also be aware that these calipers are notorious for getting rust in behind the rubber collar that's in them for the slide pin... so if you have the pin out, pull out that rubber grommet and clean up behind it. When rust forms there it squeezes the slide pin and no matter how much lubricant you have it's still going to get stuck.

damn it... was thinking about that, but thought the boot might rip. they seem to slide really good though
