Extended Itinerary
Thursday, June 24th 2004:
11:00 - 3:00PM - Registration at Park and Hotel Check-In afterwards. Registration
will be held at EBRJ Park between the hours of 11AM and 3PM. I know
most people like to check into the Hotel first then head off for
registration, but in this case, the hotel is directly across the street
from the Park. Hotel check-in starts at 2:00PM, but I talked to the
sales manager there, and he said it would be no problem at all for
people to park their cars at the hotel and walk over to the park.
The hotel we have selected is a 3 Star Holiday Inn. It is
located directly off a main Interstate, and is easily accessed from all
directions. It features 236 rooms, parking for 300 cars, a full sized
heated indoor pool, fitness center, hot tub, sauna, and 2 restaurants –
all within the same building. The rooms are clean, well maintained, and
have a choice of King, Queen, or 2 Full Size beds. This hotel also has
a full time maintenance staff incase you should have any problem with
your room. The normal rate for the time of year is $109/night, however
we have secured a group discount rate of only $64/night (with a maximum
of 4 people per room, and it’s enforced!). Once you have registered,
you will be provided with the hotel contact information to make your
reservation. Rooms will be held for the group from Wednesday the 23rd
through Monday the 28th incase anyone wants to arrive early or stay
late.
3:00 - 5:00PM - Settle at hotel and Dinner Once
registration at the park is completed, it’ll be time to check into the
Hotel. I know it normally takes people a few hours to get the cars
unloaded and get the rooms settled, so I have allotted some time for
this. Once you’re unpacked, it’ll be time to get some grub before we
head off to the go-kart track. The Hotel is located on one of the major
streets of Denver – the street is 6 lanes wide and features numerous
locations in which to dine, including Applebee’s, Chili’s, TGI Fridays,
Steakhouse, and your various fast food places (BK, McD’s, Wendy’s, etc)
– all located within 1 mile of the hotel. There is also a 24hr Super
Target less then 2 miles from the hotel, incase you need to replenish
your supply of anything.
5:30 - Whenever - Go Karts, Laser Tag, and other such fun at Boondocks Fun Center
After we’ve all had our fill, we will meet back up at the hotel and
head off to Boondocks. Boondocks is located within 10 minutes of the
hotel, and features the best in outdoor and indoor fun! In addition to
a standard Go-Kart track, they also feature a huge Laser Tag arena, 18
hole Miniature Golf course, 2000sq ft Arcade Area, Batting Cages,
Bumper Boats, AND a High-Speed Go-Kart “slick track”. Tickets for the
Go-Karts are normally $5.50 per ride; however I have secured a group
discount of $4 per ride, so good times for all!.
Friday, June 25th 2004:
8:00 - 10:30: Wake up, Eat breakfast and prepare for trip to Drag Track As
usual, we probably stayed up a little too late last night, and that
combined with our long trip has left us wanting a little extra snooze
time in the morning. You’re welcome to do anything you like, however be
aware that we will be leaving the hotel for PMI at 11:00 SHARP.
11:00 - 1:00: Leaving at 11:00 SHARP for PMI Drag way We
will need to depart the hotel at 11:00AM SHARP in order to make it to
PMI on time, therefore anyone not ready to go at 11:00, will be left
behind (however, everyone will have maps to get there, but it’s much
more fun in the group J).
PMI is located in Pueblo, which is approx. 120 miles from the hotel.
While this seems like a HUGE distance, it’s really not that bad. I’ve
selected arrival and departure times that should bring us through the
city in the least congested time of day and since the speed limit in CO
is 75MPH, it shouldn’t take more then 1hr 45mins to make the trip. The
drive down will also most likely be one of the prettiest you’ve ever
seen, since we’ll be driving parallel to the Rocky Mountain Front Range
for the entire trip. We’ll be passing within 3 miles of Pikes Peak
(Elva. 14,440ft) so I suggest you bring your cameras as the scenery is
breathtaking!
1:00
- 5:00: Drag Race at PMI
We
have pre-paid for use of PMI’s entire facility, and by George we’re
going to enjoy it! Just about anything goes! We will be required to
have our cars tech inspected, and will have to abide by the track rules
for safety (no shorts or sleeveless shirts), but after that we can
pretty much run in whatever order we’d like as many times as we’d like.
If you’ve wanted to play with your driving method, race another Bnet
member that’s been running his/her mouth off, or want to make “before
and after” runs with your bolt-on parts, now will be the time! We will
have full use of their pit area.
For those of you new to drag racing, unsure about how to race,
or not interested in racing your car at all, there will be several of
Bnet’s most experienced drag racers there to help you! Whether it’s
teach you the rules of the game, give input on your driving style to
help you improve, or simply to watch and ask questions – you can be
assured you’ll learn a lot! I will personally be leaving my passenger
seat in my GTZ and will offer a ride-along to anyone that wants to go!
I’m sure any of the other members would be willing to do the same as
well!
While we’re on the topic, let me tell you a little bit about
racing in Colorado. The track we are going to is at 4900 Ft above sea
level. Since the air is thinner up here, this will affect your track
times to the tune of almost exactly 1 second – so if you run a 15.5 at
sea level, you’d run a 16.5 up here. Some people will tell you that
this will kill all the fun of drag racing – NOT TRUE. Drag racing is
more then just going fast – it’s about consistency, technique, and
skill. Any fool can just drop the gas and go, however the experienced
racer that knows what his car will do and how to drive it to its
potential will often outrun a more powerful opponent. Since things
happen a little slower up here, that gives you more time to react and
learn the power curve of your car – plus since your car is putting out
less power up here, it’ll also be easier on the engine and drive train
components!
Racing with your friends is never boring, no matter what speed your going :-)
5:00 - Whenever: Stay for PMI Friday Night Drags (5-12) or eat dinner and head back to Hotel.
We will have the track to ourselves until 5PM that day at which time
the PMI Friday Night Drag’s start. If you still haven’t had your fill,
you’ll be welcome to stay and race some of CO’s local import life.
For those of us that have had enough, we’ll head back to the
hotel and stop at the ½ way point in Colorado Springs to have dinner.
Colorado Springs is my stomping ground, so I’m familiar with
restaurants that serve just about any kind of food you like!
Saturday, June 26th 2004:
11:00 - 2:00 - BBQ at City Park
The most popular park in the city, this 320-acre sanctuary offers
recreation opportunities galore and houses the Denver Zoo, the Colorado
Museum of Natural History and an IMAX Theatre. The parking lot is big
and the meeting areas abundant – shouldn’t be any problem to get
everyone together – it’s about 10 miles from the hotel.
For
the group shot this year, we are currently scoping out several possible
locations. We’re trying to find some of the best mountain
spots so you’ll have a good background picture for your computer
;) Right now we don’t have a solid location set, but we’ll
be taking care of that shortly.
3:00 - Whenever - Free time to explore the city This
is some time to explore Denver! I know one of the most fun things about
traveling is seeing a lot of the unique features that the area has to
offer – As mentioned above, the Denver Zoo and Colorado Museum of
Natural History are within walking distance of the park and are top on
my list! The Museum and Zoo both charge $9 for Adults and $5 for kids.
There’s also the Denver Mint and the Colorado State Capitol (very
striking gold-roofed building). We also have 3 Dave and Busters - one
less then 5 miles from the hotel. There’s no time limit and people are
free to explore the city as much as they want. We’ll be gathering a
little more information for the BFest packets on some of these
attractions.
Sunday, June 27th 2004:
9:30 – 10:00 – Wake up, Breakfast and goodbyes! For
most of you, you’ll have a decent trip back and will want to get on the
road as soon as possible. The tradition has been to get up and packed,
then have a nice big breakfast and say goodbye to all those dear to us.
For those of you planning on staying longer, both Chris and I
will probably have Monday off as well, so we can go out and paint the
town RED! :)
