The 3500 I have seen 1-2 so far on ebay.  The 3900, good luck.   It will be another 6-12 months before you see them at all on ebay.

I am a 60 degree kinda guy.  So since you have the means and the standalone, I say do a cammed/boosted 3400 or a boosted 3500.

I thought all 3100/3400 engines had aluminum pans.
