Headlight Options?

Post by TheWhiteWolf »

Ok, Well I know about the BMW Halo style headlights and the lack of available Euro style but are there any others that will fit with little work?
What model and years do the BMW lights come from?  What other cars can I pull from?

I do most of my driving at night in areas without much for street lighting, the stock headlight glass is just not cutting it even with the high power ultra white bulbs.

you can polish the stock headlights to take away the yellow.

Headlight Options?

The BMW halo headlights come from the E 36 model beemers.  I'm not sure of the exact year range, but I'm sure of the model code.

I polished mine and the yellow went away. A good polishing kit costs ya $10. Try that before doing any mods unless you love the look of the BMW lights.

In the sense that you have to trim the header panel and make your own brackets for mounting, then yes, they are a direct bolt on, lol

I don't think they fit the opening very well IMO, but to each their own...

They are slightly narrower and fit quite tight top to bottom, and also some versions are very difficult to aim since depending on how cheap of a brand you go the whole housing moves to align the light. The OEM ones only the lens moves so that makes it a bit easier but you are on the limits of the aiming capabilities. Our factory headlights have more of a face angle to them so if you try to get the BMW ones to match the fender line your squirrel hunting with the beams.

Here is an old picture of my old 95 with the factory type BMW E36 lights.

You can see the gaps on either side.

and here is what I made for brackets... Yes these were very crude, I only spent like 15min making them and they worked so I never bothered to make something better.

I was obviously not very fond over this setup hence why I spent time buffing and polishing my factory 96 headlights and kept those and did not put these in the 96.

They are still on the car yes, but they are not the best ones to start with. Here's a reasonably priced set.

Mine are starting to get hazed up since they've been sitting for almost a year now.
