Crankshaft Swap
Crankshaft Swap
I've a 96 Z26, 3.1 V6 with a bad crank bearing. Makes a hell of a racket but really doesn't sound like a rod knock, sounds like something slapping inside, it has a squeal too. I haven't pulled the oil pan.
Anyway, I've got a 92 Gt, 3.1 V6 with a good crank.
Anyone know if the 92 will fit into the 96?
Can this be done from underneath the car
or must the engine be pulled out to replace the crank? I'm sure there is bearing crap inside too. Is that stopped by the oil filter or would I have to flush out all the oil passages beyond the filter?

Should be stopped by the filter unless it is full and bypassing.
