Digital dash

Post by Mkweaver1958 »

Looking for replacement internal plates for the digital dash in my 1990 Indy.
I've changed the bulbs and changed the display color, but, the speedometer segment is faulty and displays poorly.
There is a polarized film on the LCD plate that has de-laminated causing the LCD to be unreadable.
Is there is a parts numbers associated with the cluster I'd be interested in knowing that too.

:( That is sad news. You will likely need to find a replacement cluster. I am sure there are part numbers for the assembly and likely for the components (the clusters were made by VDO), but they will not do you any good. Nothing is available for these, aside from the bulbs. These were a fairly rare option equipped exclusively on GT, GTU, and Indy models (87?)88-90 (these were all V-6 option packages, so no 4-cylinder cars had digital clusters either), even if you could get GM or VDO to talk to you about these things, they won't have any parts for the displays on the shelf, and they won't share any specs with you either. I have a rebuilt cluster, I can try to find the label from the company that did it to see if they are still around, and if they can help you. It might take me a while to unpack it though... I do remember that the same company rebuilt the S-15 digital gauges I was going to put into my '90 'Retta before I switched over to the Cutlass Supreme International digital gauges it has now, and they did a really nice job on that one. To clarify, I didn't work with this company directly, I bought both of those clusters from the salvage yards some time ago...

I know I have a cluster with some issues that I haven't done anything with, if you want just the glass displays I would probably part with them. The segments seemed to work fine, as I recall they just didn't display accurately -might have been a contact problem, may have been something wrong with the circuit-board. PM me if you are interested, I can dig that out too and test it to see what is wrong, again it will just take me a little while to get to it.

I have a digital dash, everything works as far as I've tested. All the gauges light up, tach and speedo change and I haven't seen any broken segments. The only issue is the plastic front is really scratched, but if you already have one, you could replace it with yours and have a good dash. Pm me if you are interested. I have some pictures I can send if you want.

I know, but the act of asking for price when someone else is the topic starter is very ballsy... just pointing that out.
