i had to readjust the tension leafs on my gt after removing the spoiler. now it smoothly opens for about 3 inches.

Spoiler-less trunk lids yes even on the lightest spring load will pop open on their own and not stay down if a release is used... It's one of the reasons why I have yet to install my trunk release on my 96. I wonder if a base EVER came with a trunk release stock... I wonder if it was a GT or Z or spoiler type car combo only.
