What Exhaust coat do you use?

High-heat paint. Serious discussion, right? I've used VHT, but with mixed results. It mostly flaked off of the headers on my Turbo-T, I had used the oven-bake method on that, but without the VHT primer, so it has an excuse. I am again using VHT on the 3.4 DOHC Z-26 project, it looks good but seems.. soft, easy to scratch.

So I am looking at other options, and thought I would throw some questions at the Board for info and feedback, specifically regarding exhaust-paint/coating done at home...

VHT offers their "Flame Proof" by the quart, I may go that route, I have a few exhaust-systems to work on now.

I found a good deal on Rust-oleum "High Heat 2000", anyone try this before?

What about other brands?

Better experience curing on-car, or oven-bake?

Primer an absolute must, or superfluous?

I have it outsourced... I've found any DYI method will not last, at least anything that sprays from a can will burn off. Headers on the Bronco II were just done with Cerakote Ceramic coating by a local company. https://www.cerakotehightemp.com/

I had good luck using the VHT Flame Proof on my rear header last year. Blasted, paint only, then oven cure. This year though I did the front with their clear also. Blasted, painted, cleared and oven cured and it's already peeling off one of the tubes. Not quite sure why.
