New Walkie Talkies
New Walkie Talkies
I am looking at getting a set of Walkie Talkies as my old Cobras aren't good and I want to upgrade. What do people have out there and how good are they? I was looking at a set of these but the reviews were only so so, so wanted opinions.

I would prefer the cobras only because I have some familiarity with them.

Re: New Walkie Talkies
We've been using a set of rechargeable Radio Shack ones for a few years now -they are pretty good, decent range, decent features, decent clarity. Volume output could be better, and battery-life never was so great but hasn't diminished much over the years surprisingly.
We tried a new pair this past summer, just because we had left our rechargeables at home and wanted something to have during a road-trip. We bought them at Wal-Mart, and I can't remember if they were Uniden or Cobras (they were definitely one or the other), but they were absolute junk. Not even 1/4 mile effective range, clarity sucked (I transmitted 'say again' as much as anything else ). The volume output was actually good, but with such poor clarity it didn't help. Yes, they were a cheaper model, but with the brand-name they had we expected much better -they were very disappointing. We won't buy that brand again (if we can figure out which ones they were!).
