Vintage VW Street Machines Contest

Post by Tardis »

Hey Beretta.net, haven't been here in ages, glad to see the forums still going strong!
I've been doing a frame off resto on my V8 S-10 & working on my wife's 70's VW dune buggy.
My father in law gave us his VW dune buggy & I'm in the process of restoring it.
I recently got an email from Appletree Auto saying they're having a VW contest.
So, I entered...

Voting started July 9th & ends Aug 9th. You can vote a couple times daily (clear browser) until Aug 9th.
The prize is a gift card to their VW parts store which we could use to finish the restoration.
Check out the link below & vote if you can. Thanks for the support & wish us luck!

your sooo lucky, id ditch that silly roof... im actually in the process of looking for one, i want a real manx though, not an immitation one or a knock off, i want the real deal, preferably a manx2. id then look for the sides for it(theyre hard to find from what i understand) i just want it to cruze around in, theres nothing like that around here so it would be totally different and stand out like a sore thumb... i like that. =)

Thanks man! Every vote helps. We are now in 3rd place, it's a long way to first!

And moderators, I posted in the wrong forum, can you move this thread to off topic?

Thanks :)

We're well on our way to 600 votes but still have a long way to go. I re-read the contest rules & realized what's happening. There are 2 classes, Vintage VW Street (I entered our buggy in this class) & VW Off Road. Currently we are in 1st place in the Vintage VW Street category! The 2 top guys are in the Off Road class. At any rate please keep the votes coming in we still need all the votes we can get!!!

As far as I know(what dad in law told me) the original motor is a built 1600 with a 3/4 cam.
That motor ran, but had .055 of endplay in the crank which means the crank is hammering the mains.
I built a 1641 motor with a stock cam for it to get it going again, I'm also rebuilding a trans for it too...

This is the original motor it came with..

You can see in this pic it has WAY to much endplay!

This is the 1641 I built for it using an AS41 case I found at work(I work in auto salvage)
I still have to put the jugs on, fire it up & break it in..

Here's the trans, 68 swingaxle trans out of a Karmann Ghia..

It didn't take me long to rip it apart either lol! Just waiting for parts for it now..
