You have to thread chase and rehardware those ones? I know obx had some for other makes and models which were found to be terrible out of the box, but great reliable pieces once reworked with a thread chaser and new bolts.Amateur wrote:Awesome, the Quaife LSD finally came in yesterday after a month of ordering it. My parts jalopy is almost complete...almost. I still need to buy the flywheel and half-shafts and then everything will be a go to cram in the 'Retta.

At this stage, I have no idea how "easy" this is going to go in. I'm pretty much running on a hunch that everything should be A-ok...It's made for an Isuzu Impulse, Lotus Elan M100 and those run the same tranny as the Beretta/Cavaliers. Plus I checked the spline counts from the schematics and it matched up. I'm also going to have this part professionally installed as I will admit, taking apart a tranny is way beyond my league. Once in there, I can do the rest of the work my car needs. Absolute worst case scenario, I just install the transmission from an Isuzu Impulse (converting my car to an external slave). You have to thread chase and rehardware those ones? I am floating around just getting that Impulse tranny anyways as a doner to pull 2 parts from its tranny in order to give my car a more agressive FDR (4.117) which should ballpark my 0-60 in the high 8 second range with my stock ohv.
Looks like I'll have to wait until I cross that bridge to see what happens.
Re: Chevy Beretta FF
What's your current 0-60, if you don't mind me asking?
I'm curious, because I'm going to add about 0.3 to 0.5 seconds onto your time to get an idea of what mine could do, in it's current condition.

With around 4 gallons in the tank, I can touch 60 in about 10 seconds, give or take. What's your current 0-60, if you don't mind me asking?

I want to get in the high 8s or at least the low 9s. Since I owned a 1992 Impulse XS at one point, I know its possible with their FDR mated to my car.
The 1992 Impulse XS:
weight 2500lbs
140hp@6400
120tq@4600
0-60 in the low 8s (8.0-8.2 range).
Gearing specs:
1st- 3.909
2nd- 2.15
3rd- 1.448
4th- 1.027
5th- .0829
FDR- 4.117
1995 Beretta base 2.2:
weight: 2750-2800lbs
120hp@5200
130tq@4000
1st- 3.73
2nd- 2.15
3rd- 1.33
4th- .092
5th- .074
FDR- 3.83

LOL
That's not that bad, I'm sure mine is worse. Plus my GMC Jimmy w/6.2 diesel is probably more in the 20 second range, maybe even more with the 35's.
Just for reference, I recently got to drive an 04 or 05 Impala SS (3800 S/C) and thought it was pretty crazy. It was a taxi and I had to pull a crazy night shift in it, so I didn't get to check what exact year it was LOL

Re: Chevy Beretta FF
Soooo virtually no progress has been made with my car. I've been working alot and am in the final weeks of my college semester and so I don't have any free time as of late. I did finally register for Bfest this year and I did manage to make some visual upgrades. Since I have no free time and race day was approaching, I just did the bare minimum with painting the GTU kit. I didn't even finish the back valance since I ran out of paint. It literally took me 4 hours to sand, prime, paint, and clearcoat the kit...I also painted it outside...in the dark, using a hook light. so I'm not exactly expecting that paint to hold up for very long. I'd be surprised if it lasts me the rest of this year.

Now I didn't have any money to buy grippy tires this go. The all-seasons on it were horrendous to say the least but I had fun especially when it started raining the second half.

I recorded a run on my GoPro for your viewing pleasure:
