95 3.1 beretta has rough idle,and milky residue on intake/egr port underneath egr valve when opened up. coolant had sheen to it,but no milky look on oil dipstick.

That sounds like a head gasket. The oil in the pan is diluting the coolant enough that it does not show yet. Only really bad head gaskets do that. Try a pressure check of the cooling system if you really want to verify and have the gear.

usually its just the intake manifold gaskets. when you say egr valve what do you mean? You dont usually open up the egr valve.

does it blow white smoke? how much coolant are you losing?
