New guy from CA!

Post by KeokeGTZ »

Hello ya'll. My name is Kevin. I've been lurking on Beretta.net as a non-member off and on for many years now, and recently on the FB page to find a white 90' GTZ like my late fathers that I grew up with.

A couple weeks ago I finally came across one for sale in Kentucky!! The seller was very helpful and sent me many photos/videos and answered as many questions as he could in his short time of ownership. Once satisfied with what he provided, I immediately jumped on the opportunity and flew out to check it out. I'm happy to say that I took the chance and was very pleased with it and drove her back to CA without a hitch and even averaged 32mpg!

She's cleaned up very well after a quick wash and vacuum. Next is to fully shampoo the interior, freshen up some of the suspension bushings, redo the exhaust system, touch up the paint chips/peels, upgrade some of the exterior lighting to LEDs and modernize the stereo a bit.

Looking forward to keeping her alive in my fathers memory. I'll try visit often as forums are what really keep the knowledge base alive. I'm not a real fan of how FB has destroyed that and the use of the search function. Maybe even try to make it to a Bfest someday if it's close enough (not sure I would want to do another 2000+ mile drive lol).

On to some photos!

The night I bought her.

The next morning getting some fresh rubber & alignment for the trip.

Approx 2400 miles and 4 days later, she's home and washed/vacuumed!

Saweet. Always happy to see someone snag a nice Beretta. That looks like it's in pretty nice shape! How many miles on it?

My first car when I was 16 was exactly the same combo, but with sunroof. I had a lot of fun in that car.

For the age I can’t believe the shape it’s in. Had 147k when I got it and a little over 149k when I finally made it home lol. My dad thought me how to drive stick in his identical model. Many memories, always wished he had kept it or I had bought it off of him.

Absolutely. Nostalgia is a real thing once you hit your 30s. My new Beretta is almost a carbon copy of my first one... aesthetically. Lol

The road trip is brave on an unknown car! My wife did the same thing for my truck...CO to NY. And the guy who bought my last one from NY to FL, but I knew mine would make it. Haha

Nostalgia is a bitch but I'm loving it, now I've got a car for each of the my periods in life lol. The GTZ for my childhood, a 240z as I had one for my first car and the 300zx was my dream car. This one is the exact spec that my father had, even has all the same issues that I remembered. Dash, broken door card pocket mounts, that nasty vibration at certain RPMs!!

I just finished changing out the fog light bulbs to yellow LEDs a few minutes ago. Waiting on some more LED bulbs from Amazon today (first set wouldn't fit the housing) for the third brake light and a single din cage to finish up my stereo head unit install.

I was a little worried about the drive once I decided to buy it. The seller picked me up from the airport in the car, that was about an hour drive for him and then another hour back to his hometown. He didn't hold back on driving it on the way back either. That was a decent short term test and the GTZ did really well. Once we got back to his place, threw it on jack stands and gave it a pretty decent look over as well.

So far I've replaced a leaky oil pressure sensor and next up are sway bar bushings and end links. Rest of the suspension seems ok for now. It's pretty clear that the car was well taken care of.

I don't think I would do the drive again for another car that's for sure!! lol

Wow! Beautiful car, nice background story too, thank you for sharing! I am still missing a GTZ from my Beretta collection (probably not going to happen), so I am just a tad jealous, 1990 is THE year IMO. Hope to see more of it around on the site, welcome to the addiction.

BTW, -I have a 300ZX Turbo also -mine is an '85 Z31 though, not a Z32 like yours. But the heritage is there. Almost a cross between your Datsun and your ZX...
