95 3.1 restore?
95 3.1 restore?
I bought a 95 for my daughter but the car became too unreliable for her to drive. I took over the car and it's kinda growing on me.  I've been reading through this great site for fixes but this car needs alot of work.  My question is what would make a Beretta not worth fixing?  I have the water leaks, the EGR problem, most of the steering/suspension needs to be replaced.  I think 95s had only the A/T?  Is this trans durable? Thanks for any comments.

Anything I should look at 1st? I had the EGR taken care of. I wanted to know what the ses was coming on for. I'm thinking of keeping it close to stock. It has 138,000 miles on it but the motor and trans are very strong. The body i'm not too worried about yet.

What would make a Beretta worth fixing? Well..... I can't quite answer that, but my previous car was a Dodge Dynasty. I poured thousands into that thing and was happy with every single penny that went into it. I learned how to work on cars with that car, and it's taught me so much. Now that, in my eyes, is a good investment.
The 3 speed trans mated to the 2.8's and 3.1's (not the 3100s) are pretty durable, however with yours being a 1995 i'm guessing it has the 3100 with the 4 speed automatic. I'm not quite sure about that tranny but if you look it up on google (4T60E.... I think thats the code for it) you will be able to find plenty of information on it.
I bought my beretta with a ruined fender and a broken throttle cable. Picked it up for 250 and 400 dollars later it looks alright. I replaced the motor mount, extended the exhaust to exit out the back, replaced the fender and painted it, fixed the throttle cable, and bought a full instrument cluster. It's given me a few hundred miles of trouble-free running. That, I feel, made it worth fixing.

yes most definitely the things i have learned make my beretta worth it to me. this car has taught me how to build engines and work on cars in general. But it has shown me the real passion i have for cars and how much i love to work on them i got mine when i was 16 and now im 18 and i still have and will never sell it.

Thanks, I'm starting on the leaks and will go from there. I thought the 3100 was a 3.1 Lots to learn yet

Sounds good. And the 3100's displacement is 3.1 liters but that's just about where the similarities end. The 3100 has different cylinder heads, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, and electronics (i think) than the 3.1

The blocks are definitely not the same.  I think the crank and rods may be the same, but that's about it.  Everything else (aside from some sensors/accessories) is mostly different.

Found the leaks from the firewall. I thought they would be coming from where the electronics are routed but is was the seems and welds. I coated the area underneath the wiper motors with RV roof sealer. so far, no leaks.

Yeah our cars are famous for leaks in the front welds. Mine is doing it now. But I have to wait for the rain to end before I can seal it. I hate getting in and going. *squish*
