GTZ project updates
(wicked-irocz @ May 08 2008,21:24)QUOTEIs that mild or stainless or both?
It's actually zinc coated steel pipe, i would have gone stainless but i got all these pipe parts for Free, while stainless pre-bends are bit too costy (42eur\piece here) and i need 8 of them to this exhaust.
I'm planning to use VHT header paint to give some extra protection to the pipe, but since i'm not driving on winter or other bad conditions, it should last long even if it's not stainless.
3" fits there, my mounts allow around 2mm of movement to the pipe, but not more, there would not be room for more anyway. My 'solid' engine mounts and flex pipe after header should keep it out of cracks.
My center muffler hangs a bit lower than other pieces of exhaust, it's because it was too long with the flexpipe to be fitted inside the space used for cat before, option was to shorten the header collector but since it was allready painted....
Oh and i have to admit, that i did not weld those pieces together since i'v had Zero experience about TIG welding, but now i can learn MY father did the welding, he's been using those things for decades.

Exhaust 90% done, needs some rear hangers, and tips welded in.
Them i'm taking it off the car to be painted.
And filling the huge hole @ trunk while at it.
btw, it sounded like extremely pissed off....

That is AWESOME Weba...... you are making me sway myself more and more to keep the GTZ and do the work to it..... ESPECIALLY with gas prices going where they are...... I'm actually going outside to start tackeling the struts now...

Just wondering why did you go so extreme with the floor cutting and stuff and not just put the muffler on the passenger side (like how most have a dual setup).

its not a usual dual setup
its made so that on quiet mode it flows through 2 mufflers, and on performance mode it flows through one single straight through muffler
the dynomax enters and exits on the same side and loops back around the cutout

I know that obviously by the pics, it's a dual-mode single outlet. It could've been done with the muffler placed over on the passenger side and routing the two pipes over instead of putting it right smack in the middle.

Cliff8928, too complex, would mean lot of extra piping and then it would have also been visible from back of the car.
Also i wanted to keep the exhaust pipe away from fuel filler pipe and e-brake and fuel filter maintenance are also easier on this setup (more room)

Fair enough. Looks like that'll be a nice place for your battery too..

Actually it wanted to mount 12" subwoofer over it, so it would have been lightweight enclousure, but the one i got is too big to fit there.. so it will work as battery and tool box. With carpet over it, wont even be visible.. bat is bit too tall tho.

YOU, are crazy. This is one of the more complete, in depth, awesome Beretta projects I have ever seen. You have been at it for like 3 years now or so. Your finished product is going to be absolutely amazing.

Styluss, you really think this project will be 'finished' ever?
I have list of things i want to do and there's work for another 3 years at least, and then i can think more....
Anyhow, exhaust is now 99% finished, need some mount adjusting anymore!

Time for a rant, since car's not getting done and seems to get more delays.
1) The rear brake discs ordered months ago are still on the way.. i think if they are not here after bfest, i'l get custom made ones.
2) I'm out of money to put on the project, i did some impulse shopping to my black car and gas&food prices have doubled in short period and all.. there went the money to get rest of the parts i needed.. like those seat belts and Moates APU-1.
3) No time to work on it... 2 next weeks on USA \Canada, and later i most likely have 2 other weeks elsewhere too.
4) I now have around 20 minutes of running time on the new engine, with lot of issues with belt-drive, i did have to get the tensioner mechanism CNC-machined to fit my use better and all, and then i got another issue witch makes the drive belt grind it self to death, witch is still unsolved, i guess it means more custom parts made and wasted time.
5) And what comes to time, i'l skip the roll cage build for this year, and few other things.
The damn thing is so close to road, i just need some time and money to get it there, but i only seem to get new issues.

Weba, did you make that exhaust mount? It's wicked nice, if you made it, I'd be interested in one, if not, how where did you get it and for how much?
Will the stock GTZ wheels fit with brake setup you have going on there? That's the only way I'll ever go larger, if the stock wheels will work. Has anyone tried putting those size or similar rotors on the rear axle yet?

The rotors from weba dont fit with the stock gtz wheels.. i think you need to have not less than 17" wheels to get a brake system like that.
