If it's the same as my old 90 3.1 it's no big deal. Less the fact that the one bolt that's on it is very long and there is not much space to work in. You will have to reach around the back of the trans to get to it(low and midway on the block). I used a 1/4 ratchet with an extension. If I remember right the bolt is smaller than 10mm. Try to twist(or wiggle) and pull it out. Be careful, I have heard of people breaking them off inside.

Well its done. not to bad, looked harder then it was, of course nothing goes as planned, I went to take off the nut and the whole stud and nut came out. That in its self wasn't so bad but getting the stud to start back into the hole was a issue. when I finally realized that the stud was at a slight angle i got it in in no time. just hope this solves the problem I was having.

Now my kid tells me that he is thinking of selling this little beauty. He had to wait until I had already put in multiple hours and lots of cash into it. This really is a shame to the car runs great and has no rust what so ever. But the AC doesn't work and here in Arizona thats a must.

Sad news! Yea, AC work costs alot. There is a guy in your state that buys Berettas, but he is about to buy a Indy. How is it running right now?

You would not believe it. It is worse then before. since the only thing I messed with was the sensor and connector to it I am thinking that it might be in the wiring so I am off to the junk yard to see if I can find a new harness for it.

I just don't think that's what is wrong. Are you sure you got the right sensor for your car? What's it doing now?

Re: 93 beretta 3.1 CPS HELP!!!!

Post by stngds9 »

ok I changed out the harness but that didn't help, so I pulled the ICM and had it tested and it was bad so I replaced that. But..........the car is still acting up, I can start it and it will idle fine but when I drive it and stop at a light the RPM's fluxuate high to low not by much though. I did the idle reset, also it is now dying more often, died when I was going 10 mph as well as when I stopped at a light and it is hard to start back up. don't really know what to do next....Help me please I am going to shoot this car..LOL

Have you tried disconnecting the TCC lockup solenoid in your trans? That could be locking and then causing your car to stall or run funny since it acts like a manual that your forgetting to push the clutch in on.

Check for vac leaks. Mine use to idle up and down plus it would die after I unhooked the battery. It would take some time, but the computer would learn and keep it alive. My bad idle was because the vapor canistor's valve was bad. Keep us updated on everything! I'm leaning toward the vapor canistor as of now. They are like 80 bucks, so check everything else first and try what 3X00 said.

My son has the car right now in Tuscan, going down on sat to work on it. he said that it is now kind of acting like it is missing. SO I am going to check the plug wires since I had them off when I pulled the ICM. Also when I drove it down there it seemed to me like it would cut out ever so slightly and quickly while I was doing 80 down the freeway, then when I pulled off the freeway and got to a light it just died on me.

Sounds like I was way off on the vapor canistor. If you are going to change the wires it's best to change the plugs also(only use AC brand plugs). Also, buy the wires with the lowest Ohms for the longest wire. High Ohm wires can kill coils.

unplug the tcc solenoid like 3400modified said. the symptoms are EXACTLY like the tcc going out. there should be a plug on the front of the trans right under the air box. Un plugg it and see how she runs.

OK, well I unplugged the TCC and it didn't make any difference. The car still hesitates and died on my son when he was making a u turn last night and he says that it is studdering when he starts it up. I think I might change out the plugs and wires. I had the fuel system cleaned about a month ago should I have the injectors cleaned or replaced?

If you have the time, just get the injectors cleaned... Much cheaper.
