Airbag Removal

Post by BLK96Z »

Yo! So I have a MOMO steering wheel and have been meaning to install it in my Z, but the hub adapter was like $80 so never got around to it. A few days ago i found my adapter on Ebay. Some guy had it in a early 90s Beretta. Jackpot!!!! But... then I got to thinkin about another issue... HOW THE HELL DO I GET RID OF MY AIRBAG!!! LoL Its a 96 Z26. I am sure that thing will toss an airbag light... We have state inspection here so I am sure they wont pass it with an airbag light. Just taking the bulb out wont work... removing the airbag bulb also dissables the SES light. Cant have that... Does anyone know what kind of resistance the airbag puts on the circuit??? Maybe I can use a resistor to fool the system into thinking the bag is still there??? Any ideas would be greatly appriciated!!! Thanks!

Pretty sure that IF your state inspection cares about an airbag light, they will probably REALLY care that there is actually no airbag.

Are you SURE it disables the SES light?

If so it must be an OBD-2 thing because mine still works and I have the airbag removed from both my '91 and '92.

'91 California Quad (Gone with just a bit of "Seller's Remorse".)
'92 3500 GT gone and not really missed. It was fun. Documented 13.47 N/A.

Not true, I have a small wheel in my 95 that's OBDII swapped, my SES light still works and my airbag light is removed.

Why over think this... Remove the bulb and test it... the SES light comes on every time you start your car.
